Dear Former Students of Brown High School, I live in Cherokee County, Georgia and I'm trying to persuade the school board to name a new high school being built in Canton after Joe Brown. (I actually applied to the school board, but today I withdrew due to time restraints.) At this time, I'd say there's about a 40% chance of this happening, but with the support of old Brown High School students, I bet it would happen. It would be ideal for a new Brown High School to continue the legacy of the old. The high school will open in 2006, but it will likely be named within the next six months.

Dear Friends,

As many of you know, I recently launched Precision Funding, my own mortgage brokerage company, to great success. In fact, the business is doing so well, I currently find myself with little time for much else. Therefore, after careful consideration, I have decided to withdraw my application for the School Board Post 6 vacancy and not seek the seat in the upcoming special election. Nonetheless, I will still play an active (albeit less demanding) role in this election and all of the board races for years to come. The Cherokee County School District has made substantial gains over the past five years, so it’s imperative that we stay the course.

Furthermore, as an avid history buff, I will continue efforts to have the new high school on Owens Store Road named in honor of Canton legend and four-term Georgia Governor Joseph Emerson Brown (our state’s first education advocate, and in 1880 as a United States Senator, the earliest Georgian to support public education for all children) and for the new middle school on Bells Ferry Road to be named Gold Ridge Middle School as a nod to the interesting gold mining history of its surrounding geographical area. Please support political candidates that share these same history-minded objectives.

Warm Regards,

Dave Henson
