This year’s “Roads Less Traveled” will run in Allegan County, pretty much in the same area as last year’s Grand Adventure. Rookie Rallymasters Kevin and Sarah Essenburg, who for once won’t have to drive three hours to attend a rally, have strung together a course that should prove both scenic and challenging. The first half of the rally plunges deep into the heart of the Allegan State Game Area, which we’ll leave behind by early afternoon to not bother the deer hunters. The second half, while shorter, will have slightly higher casts and run through the farmlands around Hopkins and Hamilton.

Seasonal roads are very common in the area, so they will be used with appropriate casts. As road conditions are subject to change, all roads will be verified as passable at speeds much higher than cast just before the rally. Mileages will be given at most, but not all instructions, in order to make an accurate correction factor an issue, but there will be no attempts to get the competitors lost. Expect a range of casts, enough free zones, pauses, and transits to be safe, and a 65/30/5 mix of gravel, pavement, and sand.

CLASSES

Equipped:: Unlimited equipment.
Limited:: Any mileage measuring equipment and any calculation equipment without direct odometer input (lap top computers, hand held calculators, etc.).
Stock:: Stock odometer system and any non programmable calculator with not more than one memory. Curta calculators are allowed.
Vintage:: Vehicle at least 20 model years old. Mileage measuring and calculation equipment must be mechanical.
Novice:: Any team where the total number of rallies run by the driver and navigator combined does not exceed six (6). Equipment limitations the same as Stock Class.
