Come and join us for the 53^rd running of the oldest continuously run rally in North America. From its first presentation in 1949, POR® has been a unique event. Over the years it has gone from a tour in the country, to a “brisk” 24 hour TSD event and then to a closed road performance event patterned after the European championship rallies. After several years as a FIA listed event, it became the first World Rally Championship Rally in the United States in 1972. When SCCA started the Pro Rally series, it joined that series and was generally considered not only the oldest but also the longest, toughest and meanest event on the schedule. A few years ago, it became evident to the Detroit Region that organizing a Pro Rally 500 miles away from your home was not practical. At that time, POR® was returned closer to it’s roots, and became a TSD event once again.

This year’s event will be a two-day, 500-mile rally conducted to the 2001 SCCA Tour Rally Rules. Again this year, Boyne City, the home of Mac-Sam Specialties, the event sponsor, will be the headquarters for the event. Having the headquarters in Boyne City will allow us to use more of the better roads of past POR® events. Speeds will be similar or somewhat faster than last year. Time allowances will be liberal and there will be no double jeopardy. Most of the competitive roads will be unpaved. Two-track roads will be avoided where possible. Our plan is to have a long day on Friday, with the route staying in the Lower Peninsula, including some night running before returning to Boyne City for an overnight rest. Saturday will be a shorter day going into the Upper Peninsula, so that we can have an awards banquet at the Dilworth on Saturday evening.

Registration and a welcome party will occupy Thursday evening.

This event will count toward the Detroit Region and Cen-Div rally championships
