Results Letter mailed to Rally Participants

The SCCA presented a relatively short, challenging tour rally over some of the more scenic roads west of Ann Arbor May 4, 1997. The weather was great for a rally - sunny and mid 50's with rain the previous night to keep the dust down and the locals at home. Unfortunately, the rally community also chose to stay home and only five teams showed up to run the event. We had more control workers than competitors.

Gene Henderson and new navigator Rob Moran won overall even after getting blocked by a civilian just before the first control and taking a 26 late (not a rally story - I actually observed it). Their only other problem was a missed sign on the last leg that led to a 41. Pete Padden teamed with Les Talcott and they chose to run seat of the pants in the limited class. With no calculations they managed to get several single digit scores and were never off by more than 56. Winners in the Stock class and second overall were the team of Richard Worden and Doug Pratt who had only one score over 17. Second in Stock was the team of Miller/Miller who have recently started competing again after a 20 year absence. Third in Stock was the team of Chris Laxton and Julie Szeremet.

Thanks to the workers that Dan Lyons recruited from outside the rally community as well as Mark Henderson and John Puffenberger who checked the rally and made several suggested improvements, always available when needed Bob Foren, and Sean O'Brien.
