We plan a welcoming party the evening of Thursday September 10th. It has also been suggested that we hold some sort of a "fun rally" on Thursday afternoon prior to the welcoming party for the benefit of the local United Way Chapter. We hope some of the competitors will both work and run to show their appreciation to the community.
The 1998 rally is intended to be a "dress rehearsal" for the 1999 POR which will be the 50th Anniversary of this longest consecutively running rally in the US.
The rally itself will begin in Alma on Friday morning at 10 AM approximately, with registration and tech beginning at 7 AM. The event will run westward and northward to the overnight stop for the first day in Boyne City. Time of arrival in Boyne City will be around 7 PM. There will be 2 stops during the day for fuel and food. Time and exact locations will be ascertained after the course has been finalized, and the locations chosen.
After a "parc expose" on Saturday AM in Boyne City and a "brunch" at a local park the rally will resume with the first car leaving Boyne City at 12 or 1 PM. The route will run north and east of Boyne City returning to same around midnight on Saturday where the "half way awards" will be presented at the Wolverine Dilworth Headquarters at around 1 AM.
The rally will leave Boyne City at approximately 10 AM on Sunday morning and journey south to Alma, arriving at approximately 3 PM where the cars will compete in a "dirt solo" (Alma Fair Grounds??) and be featured in a "parc expose". Awards presentation and a "picnic" will be from 4 to 6 PM.
As previously mentioned, buffets, parties, awards, etc. will be finalized after the route has been laid out, so's a definite schedule can be arranged among Sponsors and Organizers. This tentative schedule is intended to assist in outlining the parameters for POR '98. All options are open at this time.
