Archangel,
Russia
Jan. 5, 1919
Dear
Parents and all,
I
received a couple of letters from you a few days
ago dated Nov. 14th.
I am well and feeling fine. I am glad to hear
that all is well at home.
The
weather is rather cold now, but I should (not)
worry. I am in the town of Archangel now for a
time, going to gun school. Archangel is some town.
They have some street cars like a wheelbarrow
without handles. They also have some fine fur
stores, the price of furs are high. When a fellow
goes on the market you see all kinds of people
and stuff, fish by the carloads. The Russian
people are celebrating their Christmas now, it
lasts about three or four days.
I
received a bunch of letters from home, it takes
about six or eight weeks to receive an answer,
but the last mail I received came in a hurry on
account of the Christmas mail. I havent
written since Nov. some time, for I thought the
mail would be delayed, but the mail goes on the
same as ever.

There
is now (not) much news,
only a few rumors floating around about the 339th
being relieved. I had my
picture taken and am sending one in this letter.
I must close now for the light is growing dim. I
will write later. From your loving son,
Cpl.

PS: I
received some mail from Alvera and a few others,
but not from Alfred. Tell him I am getting
lonesome. I did not hear from him since I left
the States, might be back before long. Tell Agnes19
I was glad to read the few lines she wrote.
