Dear Brother10,

I read your letter of Sept. 4 and was glad to hear that all was well. I am now writing this letter at an outpost along the railroad.11 I am well and feel the same as the day I left.

I suppose by the time this letter reaches you the house may be finished. I hope I may see it soon. I hope Leo12 has a good job, if he has, tell him to stick to it, for it may do him good in the long run.

We have great sport with Russians during our relieved hour, learning them to speak English. They are the greatest fellows you ever seen for tobacco. If they see you clean out your pipe or drop a cigarette butt, they flock after it like a flock of geese. For a cigarette or a little tobacco, they will do most anything for you.

So Henry13 is gone, is he still at Camp Custer? I bet it was a sad parting for him when he left. He is doing a great thing for Uncle Sam if he gets overseas to do his bit. I received a letter from Alvera and Irene14 the same day I received yours. When a fellow receives a letter from home, it gives him more courage and makes him feel like himself again.

The weather is favorable and there is a little snow on the ground now. The snow on the evergreen trees gives a nice scenery.

I think I will close, for I want to write a few more letters. Best regards and good wishes to all. I remain your brother,

Cpl. Clement A. Grobbel

PS: Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. You will find 50 coupas Russian money, equal to 5 cents U.S. money. The picture that was taken at Camp Custer of the Company can be gotten at any time at the address below. Get a few made please.
