Film is a powerful way for disseminating the voices of those affected by war and political imprisonment.  Melissa Thompson's sensitive and insightful documntary, The Road of Women: Voices of Irish Women Political Prisoners, shows women from the Irish Republican Movement continuing their struggle for human rights  and follows  their journeys - why they became involved in the republican movement,detailing their fights for prison reform from the inside, and their releases  as part of the Good Friday Agreement. • Spoutwood Farm Center, an organization dedicated to bringing people and nature together, presents The 12th Annual May Day Fairie Festival. This year’s May Day Fairie Festival will be held at Spoutwood Farm on May 3rd and 4th from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day. Admission is $10 for adults (over 12), $5 for kids (ages 3 to 12), and free for those under 3. Those who decide to volunteer when they arrive at the festival can request a 2-hour job assignment; upon completion, the admission fee will be refunded.

I am sending this message out in the hopes that I will get many, many volunteers to help coordinate the May Community Peace & Nonviolence Gathering that is being coordinated for Roberto Clemente Field, 2 - 6pm, Saturday, May 17th.
The following is a list of areas that will need to be coordinated by people who can volunteer their time and full effort to this cause.  This is an outreach to our community, to identify and communicate peace within our own families, neighborhoods, and community.  As a prelim to this campaign, I have mailed out letters asking many churches, all Lancaster Schools, and Community Organizations to become involved in this event by way of tabling, speaking, entertainment, activities, refreshments, or any other ideas they may have to become involved.
We will need two or three people to contact all Lancaster schools, speaking to whomever they need to, to find out if that school would like to participate and how they will do so, and answer any questions they may ask.
We will need two people to contact a list of churches to find out about participation in this event, and answer any questions.
We will need one person to contact local community organizations to find out their participation level, and to answer questions.
We will need people to coordinate donations of supplies such as tables & chairs, a sound system with power supply, food & drinks and supplies for those tables.
We will need people to do flyer work, and to canvass the neighborhoods surrounding the Roberto Clemente park area door to door to help inform the community of this event, and to help guide the community in participation.
We will need a well known community leader to contact other strong community leaders to have them participate and speak at this event.
We need participation from everyone to make this a success.  I am looking for face painters again, cleanup crew, tables of information relating to community peace, nonviolence, social justice, family information, childrens activities, etc.
Please contact me personally within the next few days so I can give you the necessary information and schedule of contact.  If we do not get enough people to work on this event, we will unfortunately need to postpone it.  There are only three full weeks to coordinate this and make it happen successfully for our community, it is impossible for only a couple people to do this alone.  we need dedicated volunteers for these important tasks, and I am asking for everyone to be involved.

Activists and organizers will be traveling from across the
East Coast, Midwest, South and West Coast to attend the
May 17-18 National Conference Against War, Colonial
Occupation & Imperialism. (The date has been changed from
what was announced at the April 12 demonstration -- please
note new date.) This is an extremely important meeting for organizers and activists. It will include analysis, assessment,
evaluation and strategizing, both in workshops and in full
plenary sessions. This will be the first opportunity for
the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition and its affiliate organizers to
meet since our conference that was held in New York City a
year ago (June 1, 2002). Activists and organizers with the
A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition have been at the forefront of the
struggle against the Bush administration's ultra-militaristic foreign policy as well as its assault on civil rights and civil liberties at home.The invasion and occupation of Iraq has created a U.S. military dictatorship in a country that possesses 10 percent of the world's oil supply. This occupation is
meeting widespread resistance throughout Iraq. A.N.S.W.E.R. and others around the country and the world have been at the center of a new worldwide movement against endless war and imperialist conquest. This global movement showed its power even after the seizure of Baghdad when demonstrations took place on April 12 in over 60 countries in response to a call issued by A.N.S.W.E.R.
and other international coalitions. Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld are aggressively pursuing a design for World Empire. We believe they will fail not because some other force possesses superior military power to stop them, but instead because of the worldwide resistance that will intensify in the months and years to come. The purpose of the upcoming May 17-18 conference is to
provide the evaluation, analysis, political program and
action plan for this coming struggle.

• On Thursday, March 20, 2003, our friend and colleague Maher (Mike) Hawash was arrested ("detained") as a "material witness" by the FBI and the Joint Terrorism Task Force in the parking lot of Intel Corp's Hawthorne Farms offices.  Simultaneously, FBI agents in bulletproof vests and carrying assault rifles awoke Mike's wife Lisa and their three children in the home, which they proceeded to search.  Since then, Mike has been held without charge in the Federal Prison at Sheridan, OR.  All proceedings in his case are secret. Here are some facts: Mike Hawash is a U.S. citizen, and is being held without being charged with any crime; Mike is being held in a high-security federal prison;

Mike is being held as a material witness, but is not charged with any crime.  The Government has not said that they have questioned Mike.  In similar cases, Arab-Americans have been held for weeks or months as material witnesses before being released without even being questioned; Mike has been a U.S. citizen and resident for 14 years.  He is an Arab-American.  His wife Lisa was born and raised in Roseburg, OR, and stepchild and children were born and raised in Hillsboro, OR, where they live; The warrants and subpoenas in Mike's case are all secret, sealed by the court at the U.S. government's request.  Mike's two detention hearings have both been secret.  No information about the reasons for his detention have been released. Mike has a job, a home, a family, and deep roots in his community.  Historically, "material witness" arrests were solely for grand-jury or trial witnesses who were a "flight risk".    The U.S. has held other Arab-American and Muslim men for as long as 15 months without charge as "material witnesses."
