Reviews of Noodle Muffin's "Regime Change" CD

Noodle Muffin's "Regime Change" CD is the kind of CD that people either LOVE or HATE, depending on their political persuasion (i.e. IQ) Fortunately for us, our audience are intelligent, well-informed people, who,  generally speaking, HATE George W. Bush with a passion.  Needless to say, "Regime Change" received our best reviews ever!

NOODLE MUFFIN
“Regime Change” CD

Unfortunately still as relevant as ever; this indie band have produced a wonderful 20 song CD of Bushisms, and reasons for some much-needed change around here. They masterfully cut up words from the Commander-In-Chief himself, with a variety of musical styles, tunes and songs. Sheer brilliance. Imagine that MONTY PYTHON music album, all targeting the man, and the Man. (RK)

NOODLE MUFFIN
“Regime Change” CD

"I didn’t hold high hopes for this compilation, given that only the track titles are on the back: the actual artists are hidden within the sleeve. An anti-George W Bush agenda is all well and good, but having it as your sole selling point is a worry. However, my concerns were ill-founded - the four artists behind Regime Change (DJ Brontosaurus, DJ G2S, Dan Sias and Al Tokaji) have offered up an entertaining and eclectic collection of pop-culture-pilfering songs that rarely let the political message get in the way of the music. The styles vary from guitar ditties to studio concoctions, some of which rely heavily on other sources - for example, Blazing Empire samples Star Wars and American Arab draws from The Cure’s Killing An Arab. Some tracks work better than others.  The Dogs Of War is a little dull, and Acronymicon is fairly negligible. However, Drunken Daughters is a brilliant synth pop rock song with Beach Boys references that would be a highlight on any album this year, Kiss My Ashcroft is a great piece of Jamaican dancehall rap and Bush In 200 Words Or Less resembles R.E.M.’s It’s The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) to good effect. The cut-ups of Bush’s speeches are also amusing (especially on Message To The Iraqis), but tend to distract from the genuine samples of him saying stupid or frightening things, and so actually dilute the message.  There are 10 hidden tracks, in addition to the 20 listed (although some of these just repeat earlier songs). However, the album is a promotional item only, not available for sale (Ed: Not true! Available at NoodleMuffin.com). That doesn’t make this review a complete tease, though: you can visit <operationregimechange.org> for free downloads."

The latest release from Los Angeles's insane comic artists is an epic release of staggering proportions. With 20 tracks of Bush-bashing madness and at least five extra hidden tracks, this album ranks with some of the all-time greatest off-the-wall albums. It is the third full-length release from this band?but by far the most important. With a release date of 9/11 and a powerful political commitment to rid the world of their least-favorite dictator, these young men have stepped to the front of the furor over the impending election. All proceeds from the album are being donated to charity, and the entire album can be downloaded for free at . The music sounds like a hybrid of The Beastie Boys, Frank Zappa, and The Barenaked Ladies. Perhaps the most surprising item on this disc is the lead vocalist?George Bush himself! Join the fight, download the album, and save the world.

Noodle Muffin • Operation Regime Change • Noodle Muffin • A fascinating array of new sound-bite-filled mixes pointed squarely against the Bush Administration, this album is brimming with creativity and I have deep respect for the DJs who compiled all of these sounds and arranged them so cleverly. As I write this on Election Day, it will be dated by the time you read this review, but it is nonetheless a fine album and worth preserving for posterity. (DP)

Okay I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Noodle Muffin isn't casting its vote for George W. Bush. At least that's the impression I get after listening to, oh I don't know, the first thirty seconds of this CD. From the first to the last track (and there are more than 20 tracks!) it's nonstop Bush bashing to tunes! Most of it is related to the military operations going on in Iraq, but not all of it. There's a fare share of devoted to just general world domination too. Anyway, what really impressed me while listen to this was the quality of the sound and the talents of the singers. Most CDs that are independently produced leave a little something to be desired, but that's not the case here. This is a really good listen! Of course it helps if you're a little critical of the Bush administration. And that brings up my unpopular criticism. Some of the songs have sound bites of the president mixed in. Many of these bites are taken out of context and mixed to give a meaning other than what was actually said. The only reason I even point that out is because there are some people that would accept what they're hearing without question, although what they hear has intentionally been manipulated. Okay, I just wanted to throw that in, in the interest of fairness. Chances are if you're taking the time to read this you'd probably dig this CD and be able to discern fact, opinion, and fabrication for yourself. If you're going to a political rally, or just getting together with friends to talk about the upcoming elections, get a copy of this CD and take it along. Or, you can do what I'm going to do with it, play it in the office around a bunch of staunch republicans and watch their heads explode!

Noodle Muffin - Regime Change

Don’t burn out on anti-Bush stuff yet, at least not until you give this one a spin. Lots of great intact Bush samples, lots of manipulated mashed up ones, with silly musical accompaniment that is derivative of popular songs, styles, from electro pop, to funky hip hop, to Bowie epic glam to NIN and the Beach Boys. Silly stuff but really smart simultaneously as every track is riddled with great Bush’isms and samples. Every track good. Really good.

1) bush speech and film sample mash up, war theme, electro mash up including star wars theme, good
2) Bowie’esque epic tongue in cheek ballad knocking Ashcroft, creationists, Rumsfeld
3) upbeat funky electro with more bush quote mash up with a hip hop MC chorus
4) Beach Boys rock (fun fun fun til her daddy takes her t-bird away) feeling joke about “bush’s drunken daughters” having a big kegger bash in bahgdad
5) FCC- see clean edit track 27
6) FCC- see clean edit track 26
7) dubby reggae poke with voc delivery talking about bush connections to bin laden, Hussein, etc
8) silly feel, is this an REM or They Might Be Giants poke? Stream of lyrics and samples, great
9) are they poking NIN or Ministry now? Lots of good samples about bush middle east policy
10) great Monty Python sample to start, sounds like Stereo Total pop as its sung in French, a poke at the whole anti French “freedom fries” crap, brief
11) big swing beat, mildly titillating double entendres, almost lewd if it wasn’t so ridiculous and brought up the whole “subliminable” thing
12) list of acronyms of the day, very brief
13) FCC- see track 28 for clean edit
14) mellow silly ballady, nice, brief
15) silly psuedo nu-metal poke at the whole “lets roll” crap
16) wmd lies by bush, horrific war fallout reports, over epic ballady stuff
17) spacey electro, great samples taken during his 2000 campaign that turned out to be total lies, simpson samples “stupid president”, lots of chimp sounds, great
18) commentary about yaleys, upper class tyranny over backwards spaciness kicks into silly ditty about being privileged and escaping responsibility
19) electro rock, fundamentalist extremists going on, ashcroft singing, with Bush “approving this message”
20) “somewhere in texas a villiage is missing its idiot”, brief perfect interlude
21) brief weird interlude “brought to you by the partnership for a bush-free America”
22) dead air for exactly 5:00, then classic “with us or with terrorists” quote
23) Bush’s fundamentalism, church and state separation and lack thereof, smooth club techno soundbed
24) happy pop w/ sick commentary
25) brief, Bush on “friends” w/ saddam, obl, etc
26) radio edit of track 6: commentary on conservative xtian support and Ashcroft “kiss my ashcroft” delivered in a dancehall reggae manner
27) radio edit of track 5: cheery pop feel, Bush as a drunk, killing soldiers, name it
28) radio edit of track 13: great simpsons sample in beginning funky electro rock, call for regime change
29) 1:40 of silence then a great doctored brief snippet about “communication”, Bush’s skill
30) Dr Laura mashup, very Negativland’ish
