Ok, I admit it I have become a Titanic groupie! Now, that I have seen the new James Cameron film three times (and will probably go again), I know I have reached the "deap end" "gone overboard" and all those other cliches that follow this film's audience.

I remember my first Titanic experience. I was a child and home watching the old black and white feature film, you know the one where everyone stands stoically on the sinking ship and sings "Nearer My God to Thee". Ever since then I have been a total Titanic buff. So, I knew when it was time to go and see James Cameron's Titanic that I would probably like it.
I never expected to love it so much and become like other crazed Titanic fans!

What is it about this movie that captures the heart? For me it started at the very beginning with the beautiful musical score written by James Horner . I loved the celtic tones and knew that I wanted the soundtrack as soon as possible. I have not been sorry.
It is wonderful!

I'm sure there is nothing I can say that others have not said before me about the Titanic disaster. However I did have a piece of Titanic history recently visit me at the library.

LOCAL STORY WITH A TITANIC TWIST

One of our regular patrons, an elderly woman, came up to me with a story and photograph on a piece of paper. She explained that in a round about way she was a Titanic survivor.

It seems that when she was a small girl she and her family were in Europe before the voyage of the Titanic. Her father had toured the new ship and had come back to tell her mother how wonderful it was and that he had booked 2nd class passage for the whole family. Her mother insisted that they not travel on a new ship that had never sailed so her father sold the tickets and they traveled on the Baltic instead.

This woman's father was in the radio room of the Baltic when the Titanic SOS came through and heard the sounds of distress.
Stories like this really make you think about the ironies of fate.

Following is a list of books to read and movies to watch if you're a
Titanic buff like me!
