The Houston Apollos joined the C.H.L. for the
1965/66 season having played the season before in Omaha. The
Apollos played for 4 years before they suspended operations
following the 1968/69 season. The Montreal Canadians, the Apollos
parent team, were dissatisfied with their four year operation in
Houston. Poor attendance, lack of good scheduling dates in Sam
Houston Coliseum, and almost no available practice time in their
own rink all contributed to Montreal moving their farm team
operations to the American Hockey League. It was 10 years later
before Houston rejoined the C.H.L. for the 1979/80 season. The
new Apollos lasted for almost 2 years in the C.H.L., but they
suspended operations during the season on January 8, 1981.

The Houston Apollos supended operations on January 8, 1981. Prior to suspending their franchise, the Apollos had compiled the best defensive record in the league for the 1980/81 season. In their thirty-three games, the Apollos allowed only 98 goals for an outstanding 2.96 goals against average. One of the major contributing factors in the defensive performance of the Apollos was the superb goaltending of rookie Paul Pageau and second year netminder Doug Keans.
