The Birmingham Bulls joined the C.H.L. for the 1979-80 season after playing in the W.H.A. for the last three seasons. The Bulls where forced to find a new league to join after the W.H.A. went defunct. The Bulls lasted almost 2 years until February 24, 1981 when they suspended operations during the season. But Birmingham would soon return to the C.H.L. with a new parent club and new team name the "South Stars" for the 1982-83 season. But this too did not last long, the South Stars would not return for the 1983-84 season.
