Cincinnati has the honor of most name changes in the C.H.L. They lasted for 3 years in the C.H.L.. Their first season, 1963/64, the team started out in Indianapolis as the Capitols. Only 9 games into the season, a gas explosion during an ice show destroyed the Indianapolis Coliseum. The Capitols parent club, the Detroit Red Wings, terminated their lease on the rink and moved the franchise to Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Wings then were shifted to Memphis for the 1964/65 season due to an inexperienced club and small crowds. Cincinnati returned to the C.H.L. in 1979 as the Stingers, due to the W.H.A. folding. The Stingers did not last very long dropping from the league in the first week of December, due to poor attendance and high rental fees. Once again Cincinnati returned to the league for the 1981/82 season as the Tigers along with their new parent club. Cincinnati then exited the league again for the final time after the 1981/82 season.

BELOW IS AN ARTICLE FROM THE TULSA WORLD ON THE STINGERS DEMISE:
Lack of Fans Forces Cincinnati's CHL Team to Fold
Tulsa World - December 19, 1979
Cincinnati - Cincinnati Stinger officials and officials of the Central Hockey League formally folded the minor league hockey franchise after Tuesday night's 10-1 loss to Oklahoma City.
"It is with deep regret that I must announce that the Cincinnati Stingers are unable to continue and will cease operations effective immediately," Ronald Ryan, executive vice president and general manager, said in a prepared statement.
Cincinnati was to have played in Tulsa Friday. However, the Dallas Black Hawks will replace the Stingers for that game.
CHL officials will meet in Dallas Thursday to rearrange the schedule and possibly discuss realignment of the divisions.
Bud Poile, president of the Central Hockey League, said the Stingers told him Tuesday afternoon that the franchise could not carry on.
"At 3 p.m., they reached the point that they realized that the Stingers operation must fold," Poile said. "I am more embarrassed than disappointed. We've explored all possibilities and there's no way we can continue for this year."
"There is no way any team in our league can operate under these conditions, which include the highest hockey rent in the world - $7,300" per game in Riverfront Coliseum.
The Stingers' obligation to the league was $40,000 annually, Poile said, to cover travel expenses and league office expenses. He said the Stingers had paid half of that amount.
The Stingers, in last place in their division, never did develop enough fan support to keep the franchise alive. Tuesday night's game drew 949 fans.
With the withdrawal of Cincinnati, the second December foldup in the CHL in the past three years, the Eastern Division is down to three teams - Birmingham, Houston and Indianapolis.
With five teams in the west, it has been proposed that Salt Lake might be moved to the east. leaving the west comprised of Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Dallas and Fort Worth.
Tulsa and Cincinnati were even on the season, 2-2-1. The Phoenix Roadrunners withdrew from the CHL in December of 1977.
