The Denver Spurs joined the C.H.L. for the 1974/75 season after being forced to find another league due to the W.H.L. suspension of operations. The Spurs did not return to the C.H.L. for the next season. Denver was to get an N.H.L. franchise for the 1976/77 season. The N.H.L. Colorado Rockies played in Denver for 6 seasons. After several unsuccessful seasons, the Rockies moved the franchise to New Jersey and became known as the New Jersey Devils. The C.H.L. returned to Denver for the 1982/83 season, with a new team, the Colorado Flames. The Flames played in the league for 2 years before the entire league folded after the 1983/84 season.
