The Wichita Wind joined the C.H.L. for the 1980/81 season. They played for three years in the league before folding after the 1982/83 season. The 1980/81 season was a wild ride for the Wind. Despite coming in 6th place for the regular season, they came back strong in the playoffs. The Wind beat 3rd place Indianapolis in the Quarterfinals then went on to the Semifinals to beat the 1st place Dallas team. The Wind went on to the finals against 2nd place Salt Lake only to lose, what must have been a heartbreaker, 4 games to 3.
