Egyptian Deities

These are just some of the Egyptian deities known to man .....

Bast

This Goddess was a cat deity. She was believed to give Life, Health, Happiness to worshippers and safety to her people ( cats ). Because of this, cats were worshipped in Egypt. It was a high crime to torture a cat in Egypt. Upon death / the death of their owners, the cats were mummified and the royal cats were placed in tombs with their royal owners.

Thoth

This god was of learning, wisdom, medicine, healing and math. He had the head of an Ibis and the body of a man!

Sekhmet

This goddess is often mistaken for a god. She is the egyptian goddess who has a lion's head to symbolize her strength and fierceness. Sekhmet could bring war and destruction to enemies with fire. However, this goddess brought health and could counteract one's illness.

Amon Ra

A ram headed sphinx, or a man with two tall plumes on his head. This is the all powerful king of the gods. Equivelent to the Greek's Zeus. He is patron of the pharaohs since he is the god of fertility. Any " RA " including - name means either a relative or an avatar of the god RA ( creator, first in the Universe ).

Ptah

As the god of craftmanship and the arts, he created the universe. He was considered to be a great magickian and the lord of serpents and fish.

Anubis

This god was associated with magick, as he was the devine embalmer! As a faithful guardian of the tombs, he was also the god of the dead. He helped people to gain the goal of eternal life. His shape is the form of a jackal!

The Egyptian deities all had avatars which were other deitys all by themselves.

ISIS

- A/k/a Ament, Eset - Representation of feminine power, Isis was the divine mother. She symbolized growth, birth, development and vigor. Sometimes she is symbolized with wings.

Osiris -

The Universal lord to some, great grandson of Ra, eventually became king of Egypt and took Isis as his wife. Later he died and went to the Elysian Fields, where he welcomed the souls of the just and reigned over the dead. This is why he was the god of the underworld. Eventually, he became the wolf-god ( Khenti Amenti ). Like Pan, he represents the corn, vine and the trees. The names of Osiris are unending; he is a god that does not cease to be reborn again and again!

Set

- Osiris' " evil " brother, incarnation to the spirit of evil/chaos. His skin was white and his hair was red. Asses, antelopes and other desert animals represented this deity. He became the god of Upper Egypt, but because of his attacks on his brother Osiris, he became the enemy of all the gods.
