Faunus is the Italian god of bringing fruitation to the animals
and to fields. Later, he was identified to Pan. As the legends in mythology tell us, he is the son of Picus ( Pan's son in mythology, ) and the grandson of Saturn ( his mother was Canente. ) He invented the rustic pipe. Faunus possessed the gift of prophecy and it is told he caused/causes voices to be heard in the countryside. Lupercalia is celebrated on February 15th and was a prime Roman holiday in ancient Rome. Goats ( male and female, ) were sacrificed, in which the priests of the college of Luperci would only wear their skins. Today, other events should be a substitute for this since most animals are in slaughter houses and cloaks are better fitting.
