Restoration– A 2007 Sea Ray 175 Sport

While attending the church fundraiser auction of a friend, we placed a bid on the showcase item– just for fun.  To make a long story short, we walked out that night the proud owners of a 2007 Sea Ray 175 Sport bowrider.  With seats for six and a Mercruiser 130 hp stern drive, the new boat— named “Restoration”— is now frequently seen cruising the inland waters of Alabama.  Restoration provides a nice compliment to the small daysailer, Fuggles, and will give more room for entertaining guests.

Boating

In October 2005, I began construction of a Passagemaker dinghy from a kit sold by Chesapeake Light Craft of Annapolis, MD.  Using pre-cut parts of Okoume marine plywood fastened together via the ‘stitch-and-glue’ method, I constructed a 12 foot long pram, configured for sail.  The boat was named Fuggles, and was launched in July of 2006.  Since then, I have been tinkering with the boat’s rigging, and honing my sailing skills.  A complete account of the construction of Fuggles is contained in this blog.   For more info, check out the Passagemaker Dinghy Forum.

Mill Creek 16.5

A new project begins:  In September 2007, construction began on a Mill Creek 16.5, a two-person open cockpit kayak.  As with the Passagemaker Dinghy, this boat was built from a kit made by Chesapeake Light Craft.  The construction is blogged at On Mill Creek.  The goal is for the boat to be launched June 2008 at The WoodenBoat Show at Mystic, CT
