Reverend A.J. Henckel was baptized in 1668 in the Lutheran church picture to the right, which is located in Merenberg, Germany. He attended school across the street. (Merenberg is within driving distance north of Frankfurt.) hpchrch2.jpg
hparch.jpg When you "drive" up to the front of the church in Merenberg (pictured above) you pass thru the archway pictured to the left . . . assuming your vechile isn't too tall or too wide.
The spire of the Lutheran church pictured to the right, located in Daudenzell, Germany, was originally built around 1525 and then rebuilt around 1810. Rev. A.J. Henckel was pastor of this church between 1695 - 1714. Daudenzell is located a short distance east of Heidelberg.) The present church building (attached to the right of the tower) was constructed sometime between 1960 - 1980. hpchrch1.jpg
hpaltar.jpg The sacristy altar to the left is located in the base of the spire of the Lutheran church located in Daudenzell, Germany (which is pictured above). The sacristy and altar were built around 1300. No doubt, this is the altar where many of Rev. A.J. Henckel's children were baptized.
To the right is a highway historical marker for Germany Valley. Dennis Hinkle, a descent of Rev. A.J. Henckel, is beside the sign. This is near Riverton, West Virginia, the site of the 1997 association meeting. hpdhsign.jpg
hpgerval.jpg To the left is the scenic overlook of Germany Valley, between Harrisonburg, Virgina and Riverton, West Virginia.
To the right is an arrowhead shaped historic marker commemorating Hinkle's Fort. The marker is approximately four feet tall. The grave of John Justus Henckel. Sr. is in a small private cemetary just up the hill behind this marker. hparrow.jpg
