Dr. Peter Ferdinand Verhoff (born May 22 1836) and son, Judge Bernhard "Joseph" Ferdinand Verhoff. Nephew and grandnephew of Francis Verhoff. Decendants of the only known brother of Francis, Heinrich "Joseph" Verhoff (born 1798, Wiedenbrueck). Heinrich Joseph Verhoff married Elis. Woestmann (dau. of Baker Otto Woestmann & Maria Anna Feldhues) in Wiedenbrueck, 1831.

Heinrich Joseph Verhoff had one other son that reached adulthood, his name was Franz Heinrich Verhoff, born Jan 29 1834...two years before Francis Verhoff left Wiedenbrueck. The godfather of Franz Heinrich in 1834 was a Franz Heinrich Verhoff, probably his uncle "Francis Verhoff" since his full name was Joannis Franciscus Heinricus Verhoff, latin for Johan Franz Heinrich.

Anna Maria [Kramer] Verhoff with unquestionably her grandchildren. It is estimated that Francis and Anna Maria Verhoff have over 10,000 descendants, as each of their 10 children in turn had large families. All but one of their children remained in Ohio, a daughter, Catherine Verhoff Warnecke, she moved to Uniontown, WA ca. 1870's.

Other early American Verhoff settlers include distant relatives: Conrad Verhoff, born 1814, Wiedenbrueck, settled near St. Louis ca 1830's...and Wilhelm Verhoff that settled in Washington DC ca 1860's. These two lines also link into the the VERHOFF FARM in Wiedenbrueck. VERHOFF is a unique name, I suspect that we are all connected.

VERHOFF presence in Wiedenbrueck can be traced back to at least the 1500's, primary residence appears to have been a VERHOFF FARM just outside of the village. Verhoff's have managed to retain ownership of this Farm for centuries, up to the present time. Otto Verhoff born 1679, son of Evert, was the last direct ancestor of Francis to have been born on the Farm. Management was passed over to his brother Christian, the current owners ancestor.

Gertrud Verhoff, sister of Francis, lived at this residence ca 1826 following her marriage to Ferdinand Heissing. Their names are still inscribed above the portal today, as it is part of the Historic District of "Old Town Wiedenbrueck". Their son, Charles Heissing, emigrated to Putnam County Ohio. He appears in the 1850 Federal Census with the family of Francis Verhoff. Plaque of Luise HENSEL appears to the left of the wide doorway which historically was built for croploaded carriages. A noted resident of Wiedenbrueck, she wrote "Abendliedes...Mude Bin Ich Geh Zur Ruh".
