ALOHA! Welcome to The Plantsman's Maui Site.
We're glad you are here! If Hawaii is considered paradise, then Maui must just about be heaven.
The locals say "Maui No Ka `Oi", which means "Maui is the best". The climate
is great, the temperatures varying little year around. Surprisingly, it's not quite as hot as the southern USA is in
the summer, with the tradewinds helping to moderate things. You can go to tropical rainforest, perpetually
dry and sunny beaches or to unbelievably cool mountain areas all on the same island. The scenery is incomparable
and the people are friendly and laid back.
Maui is the second largest of the Hawaiian Islands and is a world away from the hustle and bustle of the stereotypical
Hawai`i of Honolulu and Waikiki Beach. There are no large cities nor real overcrowding, with even the larger communities referred to as "towns". The island is dominated by two volcanoes: Kahalawai with it's ancient extinct Pu`u Kukui (Candlenut Hill) which forms the West
Maui Mountains, and the towering Haleakala (House of the Sun) of East Maui, the world's largest dormant volcano. The large fertile isthmus that connects
the two together gave rise to the nickname of "The Valley Isle".
The Plantsman would definitely recommend that you buy a copy of "Frommer's Maui 2003" or "Hidden Hawaii" travel guides
to give you some ideas in detail about lodging and things you might want to do. Maui abounds with
activities of all kinds, although relaxing is also encouraged. That's the purpose of this site: to give you
ideas of quality things to see and do with your limited time to visit, and to give you a dose
of virtual Maui. This site is not commercially sponsored and no entity has paid to advertise
within it. Your questions or comments will be appreciated. Enjoy your trip to Maui!

"No alien land in all the world has any deep, strong charm for me, but that one; no other land
could so longingly and beseechingly haunt my sleeping and waking, through half a lifetime,
as that one has done. Other things leave me, but it abides."
-- Mark Twain, talking about Maui, c. 1889
