Introduction Welcome to the Fanfic Writer's Guide to Tokimeki Memorial. This document is intended to be an aid for fanfic writers who wish to either write stories set in the Tokimeki Memorial (or TokiMemo for short) universe, or wish to incorporate TokiMemo characters into their own stories. Tokimeki Memorial was released in 1994 for the PC Engine game console and became the first game in the Dating Simulation genre. Over the years since, it has stood above the many imitators as the best of the genre. This is due to its innocent charm and engaging characters. After ports to the Super Famicom, Saturn, PlayStation, and Windows 95 platforms, as well as spinoff games, a sequel with new characters was released in 1999 for the PlayStation. Also, TokiMemo 3 is in the works for the PlayStation 2. In addition to the games, there are audio drama CDS, a live-action movie, and a two-part OAV series available. The scope of this guide is to give the fanfic writer an overview of the setting of TokiMemo, as well as a guide to the characters found in the games and anime. Unfortunately, it also contains spoilers for the various games and related works, so people new to the games may want to put this document aside for the moment until they get more familiar with events in the games. It is meant as an evolving document, where revisions, corrections, updates, and additions can be made over time as new additions are made to the TokiMemo universe. Anyone with new information can either post it to the Tokimeki Memorial Mailing List, or e-mail it to the editor at falcon@best.com directly. As a side note, all Japanese names are presented in the traditional style: family name first and given name second. Additionally, Japanese names and words are written in Hepburn romanization with few exceptions, such as standard spellings for places like Tokyo and Kyoto. Special thanks must go to Pearson Mui, a fanfic writer who got the whole ball rolling with this project. Ganbatte, all of you fanfic writers! II. Setting The original Tokimeki Memorial is set in Kirameki City, while Tokimeki Memorial 2 is set in the neighboring city of Hibikino. Both are fictional Japanese cities with no known location, though Hibikino rests by a mountain range. Due to the fact that the field trip choices in both games include Kyoto, Hokkaido, and Okinawa, it can be deduced that neither Kirameki nor Hibikino are anywhere near those three locations. At any rate, both cities are so close together that students and other residents can be seen intermingling in either city, as evidenced in the OAVs. As shown in Tokimeki Memorial 2 Substories 1, both cities are connected by a subway line. However, in volume two of the OAVs, a few brief scenes in the opening show locations in Tokyo. While there is no official confirmation, one might guess that both Kirameki and Hibikino could be suburbs of Japan's capitol. This is a slim lead though, and there's no indication of this in the games. Both cities can be assumed to be decent-sized cities with a fair amount of amenities for their residents, like amusement parks, concert halls, temples, zoos, etc. In fact, Hibikino's population has been placed at 83,002 in the Hibikino Watcher supplements to TokiMemo 2. Time frame-wise, the first TokiMemo game takes place in the late 90's, depending on which version of the game is being played (Saturn and PlayStation versions place it from April, 1995 until March, 1998). The second one takes place from April, 1999 until March, 2002, with a brief prologue in March, 1992. III. Characters Tokimeki Memorial Characters Here are the original characters that first turned up in the Tokimeki Memorial game. Note that the minor characters are listed afterwards. 1) Fujisaki Shiori Physical Description: Height: 158 cm (5'2") B/W/H: Year 1 - 83/56/84 cm (33/22/33") Year 2 - 84/56/85 cm (33/22/34") Year 3 - 85/57/86 cm (34/22/34") Eye Color: Red Hair: Red; worn straight past the shoulders with a hairband and split in the middle Birthday: Input by player in the game Club: Varies Honorifics used for main character: Consistently uses (given name)-kun. The heroine of the game (as well as idol of Kirameki High), Shiori has beauty, brains, and athletic ability to spare. She is a driven girl, motivated by achievement in order to challenge herself. However, she is not by any means a perfectionist, though she may be perceived as such by some due to her high standards both for herself and for those who wish to win her heart. In fact, she will encourage her friends in their efforts in order to bring out the best in them. Due to her high standards for herself, she will object if someone refers to her as "sexy". She sees herself as more than just looks, and does not like it when someone cannot appreciate her for her intelligence and personality. As such, she finds the term "sexy" demeaning, though she doesn't mind being called "pretty" one bit. In fact, whether it's casual or formal, her wardrobe could be considered more pretty than sexy. She's also nogalstic about the past, and has a special attachment for a childhood friend. While growing up, this friendship was screwed up by friends of that boy teasing him about being close to a girl. However, the two have renewed their friendship at the beginning of high school. One of the loves in her life is classical music. In the OAVs, she starts up a classical music club which becomes popular over time. Other members of this club include Mio and Megumi (also founding members) as well as Rei and Mira. Mike Ching's Notes: Shiori is probably the most difficult among the cast to characterize, mainly because one has to balance her personality with her skills and talents. It's all too easy to make her too skilled, too gentle, too competitive, etc. The best way to go around this is with moderation. Remember that Shiori may be exceptional in many aspects, but she's still a young high school girl with her own life to live. She's well- versed in classics like Shakespeare and Goethe, and often enjoys spending her free time in the library. In fact, she can get so engrossed with a book that she might forget everything around her. She also enjoys romantic movies and being in romantic settings. She wishes for herself to be like the heroines in the stories she enjoys so much Conversely, she doesn't care much for physical activity and strenuous situations, partly due to her anemia. Of course, the anemia may very well be due to her dislike of eating meat (though she loves eggs). She dresses in a very feminine manner, like her heroines, and prefers to be thought of as pretty. Mike Ching's Notes: Everyone must have known a girl (or guy) like Mio. The type that didn't really do well at sports but was exceptional with stories and tales. As previously stated, a bookworm. Try to think hard about that person; it would help you picture Mio better in this light. She's very self- absorbed and tends to look down on others who aren't as smart as she is. She's also a genius when it comes to electronics and mechatronics, and her main project is a giant robot with which she plans to conquer the world. In fact, she looks down on other girls who make a big fuss about matters of the heart. Those who wish to win her heart would have to be able to conquer her both figuratively and literally, since she may very well challenge them to a fight with her pet project. If someone should catch her fancy, she might even enroll them into her club against their will. As a side note, she may endeavor to become partners with a member of the Ijuuin family (not necessarily Rei, mind you) in the matter of her pet project. This may be cause for fear due to the combination of Yuina's skills as an up-and-coming mad scientist and the resources of the Ijuuin family. She has no qualms about being considered sexy by others, and her wardrobe reflects this. Some of her outfits may be influenced by science fiction, but they are quite stylish and sleek. Mike Ching's Notes: Yuina's not quite like Tenchi Muyo's Washu, but you could write her along those lines. She's brilliant when it comes to highly technical material, but sometimes relies on her logic and inventions too much. Alternatively, you could write her as having her own doubts about her sciences, though she will most likely keep this to herself. One thing is certain; she isn't charmed as easily as most girls, so romantic subtlety won't work on her very well... Known Acquaintances: - Kagami Mira - Ijuuin Mei (TokiMemo 2 Substories 1) 4) Katagiri Ayako Physical Description: Height: 159 cm (5'3") B/W/H: Year 1 - 86/60/86 cm (34/24/34") Year 2 - 86/59/86 cm (34/23/34") Year 3 - 86/60/87 cm (34/24/34") Eye Color: Dark Grey Hair: Dark Grey; worn mostly in a bun atop her head, though there are long bangs that frame either side of her face and reach down to her shoulders Birthday: September 30, 1979 (year info derived from OAVs) Club: Art or Band Honorifics used for main character: (family name)-kun, but will use his nickname once she's really close. Ayako is one of the more lively characters in the game. She enjoys the arts, particularly works like those of H. R. Giger (of "Alien" fame). She also enjoys music, whether playing an instrument or singing Karaoke. She's bilingual as well and often enjoys practicing her English skills. In fact, her speech is often laced with English words. However, she's not one for overly physical activity, like athletics, and she has a phobia of water. However, with help from the school's swimming ace, Kiyokawa Nozomi, she gets over this with time. She also hates noisy places, and she's also uncomfortable with places and things that are overtly romantic. She'd rather laugh and/or sing than get too mushy. She likes to dress casually, and prefers being pretty over being sexy in others' eyes. Mike Ching's Notes: Expect Ayako to be one of the more unpredictable characters. She's slightly eccentric in her own way, which is one of her charms. She speaks English with only the slightest hint of an accent, and by the OAV, she seems to be studying French as well. One of her plans is to study art in Paris, this can be made into a good story plot. Known Friends: - Nijino Saki (Drama Series #1) - Kiyokawa Nozomi (OAV) - Misaki Suzune (Drama Series #2) 5) Nijino Saki Physical Description: Height: 156 cm (5'1") B/W/H: Year 1 - 81/59/82 cm (32/23/32") Year 2 - 82/59/83 cm (32/23/33") Year 3 - 82/60/84 cm (32/24/33") Eye Color: Light Blue Hair: Light Blue; worn short Birthday: January 13, 1979 (year info derived from OAVs) Club: Soccer or Baseball Honorifics used for main character: (family name)-kun at first, but she'll shift to (given name)-kun once she's familiar enough. As the school's sports idol, Saki loves anything athletics-related. She manages the soccer (or baseball) team and takes care of her players, sometimes taking more than just a little interest in their lives in the process. Despite her reputation, though, she isn't very athletic herself and she's prone to getting sick on occasion. Once she takes a liking to someone, she'll try her best to cheer them on, and she's quite honest and open in her relationships. She enjoys cooking and knitting things for the boys she likes. Anyone wanting to win her heart should have a lot of perseverance, since she takes inspiration from such guys. Like Ayako, Saki likes to dress casually and prefers to be thought of as pretty rather than sexy. Mike Ching's Notes: Saki is normally the mature, maternal one of the bunch, and doesn't show her more childish side except to people she's become very close to. She loves to cook, and really likes helping other people out with their problems when she can, even if it's just a bit of moral support. A daughter of one of the richer families in Kirameki (though not as rich as the Ijuuins), Yukari has been raised up to be the epitome of politeness and femininity. She has an easy-going personality and likes to take things slowly. In fact, her ultra-polite and somewhat slow speech patterns reflect this. Even though her parents apparently took great pains to raise her properly, Yukari doesn't seem to mind one bit. In fact, she's quite close with her parents, her father in particular, and anyone seeking her heart must pass muster with them. As a member of the tennis club on campus, Yukari likes guys who are athletic as well as good-looking. She also likes unusual things, like Venus flytraps and horror movies, and she can be a bit adventuresome in spite of her polite upbringing. In addition, she likes to be thought of as pretty due to her femininity. Mike Ching's Notes: She is slow. In more ways than one. It's hard to ruffle her personality, although she is quite slow to catch on to a few things on many an occasion. She also likes to knit, although she sometimes loses herself in her hobby. The swimming ace of Kirameki High, Nozomi very athletic and tomboyish in her behavior and mannerisms. She speaks like a boy and almost dresses the part, too. However, the boyish exterior conceals a very feminine interior. She loves flowers and sometimes she might experiment with ribbons and such, though she never wears them in public. As the top swimmer, she hardly gives a thought towards romantic relationships since she spends so much time either in the pool or with long-distance running. As such, she may be unprepared if a boy (preferably a very athletic one) catches her attention. It may drive her to distraction, and she may not know how to handle such unfamiliar feelings. One thing to note is that while she's athletically powerful, she lacks a little finesse and can be a little clumsy at times. She may very well be blacklisted at the museum, and dates at the bowling alley may be a bit risky. Mike Ching's Notes: Nozomi's quandary is not only described in the game but in the OAV as well. Here is a girl who is admired for her skills, and yet she isn't really sure that this is the kind of recognition she wants, at least not from someone she likes. Think of Nozomi as the kind of girl that grew up with a lot of brothers and a father. She acts boyish, but she's definitely female inside. Known Friends: - Katagiri Ayako (OAV) - Nijino Saki (OAV) - Misaki Suzune (senpai-kohai relationship) (Drama Series #3) 8) Kagami Mira Physical Description: Height: 167 cm (5'6") B/W/H: Year 1 - 90/60/88 cm (35/24/35") Year 2 - 92/61/89 cm (36/24/35") Year 3 - 93/61/89 cm (37/24/35") Eye Color: Purple (Hazel in later illustrations) Hair: Purple; worn full-bodied, shoulder-length and split down the middle Birthday: November 15, 1979 (year given by OAVs) Club: None Honorifics used for main character: (family name)-kun, then (given name)-kun once familiar enough with the character. The most sought-after girl on campus, Mira maintains a figure that rivals most supermodels and attracts a crowd of groupies wherever she goes. She has a great appreciation for things of beauty, and prefers to spend her time with extremely attractive guys. However, she also shows a haughtiness towards the boys that she knows, and expects near-worship of herself from anyone seeking her attention. She can come off as vain and stuck-up, though her groupies won't mind one bit. This haughtiness is actually a form of revenge, though. During junior high, she found herself dumped a lot by the guys she liked. Hurt, she resolved to dump guys just as she herself was dumped. First, she'd build up their hopes, then she'd dash them like a cheap plate. For a while, this was fun for her, but after a while, she began to regret her actions. She now wishes to find someone who'll help her go back to her old self, if she'd only find the courage to change. She's very fashion-minded and prefers to be called sexy...a lot! Being vain, she seeks out compliments and likes to be the center of attention. Mike Ching's Notes: Mira embodies probably everything you hate (or like, if your mind works that way) about the cheerleaders in your high school: physically attractive, selfish, and somewhat shallow. But look a bit closer, and you'll find she has a hidden side that she doesn't show to others. She's a responsible (albeit harried) older sister to her younger siblings (as evidenced in the OAV). When Cyndi Lauper sang "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", little did she know that it would apply so much to Yuuko. This girl is almost totally absorbed with the latest in both fads and in fashion, and the most important thing in her life is playing. She'll blow off academics to the point where stern lectures by her teachers don't faze her, but she is somewhat aware of how precariously low her grades are. Unfortunately, she's also not above cheating on her tests. It should be noted that even when she's out of high school, playing will still be very important for her. She'll certainly be seen at various arcades, playing the latest games like Dance Dance Revolution. Naturally, she likes to be thought of as fashionable, and often dresses in the latest styles. She likes her guys to take her to the latest date spots, as long as they're fun. Mike Ching's Notes: She's a girl with little, if any, parental supervision in her life. It's not hard to find a model for her since she's just like a lot of girls out there, regardless of what country you live in, unless you're in a very conservative nation. Yuuko is the real party girl, and very easy to write up in a fanfic. Quite a few hints are dropped that Yuuko might have a liking for Yoshio. Although Yoshio clearly likes Mio, Yuuko is the one who's often paired up with him. They seem to make a good couple... Known Friends: - Koshiki Yukari - Saotome Yoshio 10) Mikihara Megumi Physical Description: Height: 150 cm (4'11") B/W/H: Year 1 - 78/57/79 cm (31/22/31") Year 2 - 78/58/79 cm (31/23/31") Year 3 - 79/58/80 cm (31/23/32") Eye Color: Brown Hair: Brown; worn straight down to the shoulders with twin braids bound together in the rear Birthday: September 5, 1979 (year info derived from OAVs) Club: None Honorifics used for main character: (family name)-san, then eventually (given name)-kun One of the shyest girls at Kirameki High, Megumi is never entirely comfortable around guys, and her stuttering is evidence of this. In fact, the more she likes a guy, the more difficult it is for her to speak clearly. If anything, she'll rely on Shiori's help in getting introduced to a guy she likes. She's much more comfortable around her female friends as well as animals since she likes them so much. She can get totally engrossed at the local zoo, and she owns a pet Yorkshire Terrier. Like Shiori, she can be quite picky about the quality of the boys she likes. She also likes to be considered cute. Mike Ching's Notes: Megumi is very choosy about the guy she likes, just like Shiori, albeit for different reasons. She's quite afraid of making a mistake and falling in love with the wrong kind of person; part of her shyness springs from this doubt, and it's usually Shiori who helps her along her path. The two are the best of friends, and at times are nearly inseparable. Yoshio's younger sister, Yumi can often be mistaken for a kid. Her wardrobe doesn't help in this area, and neither does her highly emotional personality. In fact, she can break out in tears on occasion, but she can also be quickly comforted. Her loves of anime, video games, snowball fighting and pro wrestling only adds to her childish reputation. She is rather conscious of this, and it greatly irritates her. Calling her cute is only asking for a MAJOR temper-tantrum (if she's REALLY angry, expect to feel the power of a pro wrestling armlock). The wise thing, even if it isn't true, would be to call her sexy and mature, since she wants to be more like an adult. If only she'd act like one... Naturally, she has a degree of sibling rivalry with Yoshio, and her knowledge of pro wrestling moves as well as her athleticism from being in the basketball club give her the edge over him. She also finds herself annoyed by her brother's constant efforts in gathering information on the girls at school. Mike Ching's Notes: With Yumi, it goes without saying that it helps to describe her if you have a kid sister yourself, or at least if you have a friend who does. Whatever the case, Yumi's actions hover somewhat borderline between "cute" and "annoying", and it'll be quite difficult not to fall off one end of the wall while you're writing her. Known Friends: - Fujisaki Shiori - Akiho Minori (Drama Series #3) - Tomomi (senpai-kohai relationship) (Drama Series #3) 12) Saotome Yoshio Physical Description: Height: 167 cm (5'6") Eyes: Orange (Light Brown in later illustrations) Hair: Orange; slightly tousled Club: None Honorifics used for main character: None; usually uses either family name or given name only As Kirameki High's Info Man, Yoshio is quite adept at gathering info on the girls around him. He not only can find out the interests, likes, and dislikes of any given girl, he can also figure out their measurements...apparently just by eyesight if need be. He has a very friendly and outgoing personality, and is quite willing to share his information with his friends. However, Ijuuin Rei is not among that list of friends since Yoshio greatly dislikes the ultrarich student. Despite the typical sibling rivalry between himself and his sister, Yoshio tends to look out for Yumi quite a bit. Unless he's sure that the guy is good for Yumi, Yoshio will be hesitant in giving info out on her. Mike Ching's Notes: Yoshio's a nice guy, although he might be a bit obsessive about his hobby. Radio plays often pair him up with either Mio or Yuuko, although it's clear that he likes Mio and is only friendly with Yuuko to an extent. Expect him to make a gag or two at someone else's expense, just for fun. Other than being a number one source of girl info, he occasionally takes time out as Yumi's practice dummy in wrestling. Quite a few hints are dropped that Yuuko might have a liking for Yoshio. Although Yoshio clearly likes Mio, Yuuko is the one who's often paired up with him. They seem to make a good couple... Known Friends: - Fujisaki Shiori - Kisaragi Mio - Asahina Yuuko 13) Ijuuin Rei Physical Description: Height: 172 cm (5'8") Eye Color: Yellow (Light Brown in later illustrations) Hair: Blonde; worn in a ponytail that extends past the hips Club: None Honorifics used for main character: None; uses "omae" instead of the character's name out of a sense of superiority. Rei can be considered either the most sought-after or the most arrogant and stuck-up student on campus, depending on who you ask. Most girls seek after Rei's attention, while just about all of the guys hate their ultrarich classmate. Rei may be handsome, but those looks (as well as the family riches) come with a massive ego. Rei is definitely snobbish and looks down on everybody else, sparing no one from snide remarks and such. However, while everyone is fooled into thinking Rei is a guy, she's actually a girl. Due to family reasons, Rei has to pose as a boy while out in public. Even though she may pose as a guy, Rei cannot entirely deny the fact that she's a girl. If she runs across a guy who can be friendly with her despite the abuse she heaps on him, she may start dropping hints about her true gender. Around all others, especially Yoshio, she'll go to extremes to guard her secret. Mike Ching's Notes: Rei's attitude is mostly due to the social standing of her family. She acts male in order to please her family, and it works to an extent. It's often a puzzle how much of Rei's inflated ego is really ego, and how much of it is actually from a low self-esteem... Known Friends: - Fujisaki Shiori (Drama Series #2) - Nijino Saki (Drama Series #1) - Tatebayashi Miharu 14) Tatebayashi Miharu Physical Description: Height: 153 cm (5') B/W/H: 81/58/82 cm (32/23/32") Eye Color: Green Hair: Green; worn in twin braids that loop around in the rear and sides, resembling a pair of koala ears Club: None Honorifics used for main character: None known of in the game. Like Megumi, Miharu is extremely shy, and the fact that she can fall in love with someone at first sight doesn't help. In some ways, she can be considered more shy than Megumi since, for the most part, she spies on the object of her affection from a distance. Sometimes, she'll go as far as Hibikino to do so. If she's brave enough, she'll even leave messages on his answering machine or bump into him in the school halls or at a date spot. Many of her female classmates consult her for her horoscopes, and she's been known to write the horoscopes for the local magazine, the "Hibikino Watcher". She also bases many of her decisions on the fortunes she comes up with and occasionally tries to convince a classmate to do something using her fortunes as an excuse. It should be noted that both she and her twin sister, Maho, have a bit of the trickster in both of them. They'll often switch places both at school and on dates (sometimes often on the same date), and they do a handy job of imitating each other. The only way to tell them apart is to listen to their vocal pitch and their speech patterns. Miho is subtly more soft-spoken and tends to be more polite than Maho. Another good way to tell them apart is to have whichever one the character is with play Dance Dance Revolution. While Miho is quite unskilled at the game, Maho is a champ at it. In fact, he lets her get away with calling him "Kazumi-chan." However, she's definitely on unfriendly terms with the ultrarich girl Ijuuin Mei. To say that both girls are fierce rivals would be an understatement, and one can only surmise that the rivalry is class- based. When she's wearing her uniform, she'll wear it in a lazy manner with the jacket open and the tie loosely tied. However, her depression keeps her from joining the team for at least the first two years of high school. Not only that, but she entertains thoughts of changing schools at the start of her third year because of the matter. One thing that should be noted about mei is that she's also led a sheltered life on the Ijuuin estate. As a little girl, she would sneak off of the estate on occasion and explore the outside world on her own. On one such expedition, she ran across a little boy who played with her, promising to play with her another day when Sakunoshin came looking for her. Unfortunately, the boy never showed up the next time she snuck out. That hurt her and affected her view of the lower classes. Even to this day, she leads a sheltered life. She's never been to places like fast food restaurants, summer matsuris, and the beach. However she's just as curious as she was when she was a child, but she masks it with the typical Ijuuin arrogance. As far as fashion is concerned, Mei tends to go the multicultural route to project an image of worldliness and sophistication. Sometimes, she'll go for a sci-fi look instead. She also wears custom-made school uniforms that are very distinctive and stylish. One habit of hers is to end many of her sentences in "no da.", like Fushigi Yuugi's Chichiri. As hinted above, she enjoys video and computer games, and she's even had a hand in producing them. She is also eager to team up with like-minded people, like a certain former student and reputed mad scientist of Kirameki Private High School. Also, as mentioned above, there is a fierce rivalry between herself and Akai Homura that is possibly class-based. Another of her dislikes is green onions. Years later, she took up the position of student teacher, only to find that both the boy (who had moved back to Hibikino City recently) and Hikari were students at the school. Being reunited with the two pleased her immensely. As a teacher, it takes a lot to impress her. She may consider accompanying the boy out on a date on occasion, but she's also mindful of her position. Thus, she prefers out-of-the-way places like the beach and the mountains. As a piano player, she also appreciates the arts. She likes to dress fashionably, and she doesn't mind being thought of as sexy. One thing she isn't is a morning person, and she's adverse to things mechanical. Instead, she travels all over with the Takehiro Circus since the ringmaster is her father, the only family she has. She's also one of the star performers for the circus, and she keeps a small, mischievous pet named Deiji. The circus life isn't exactly the carefree, idyllic life for Sumire, though. One of her concerns is her father's ill health, and there have been noises of other performers leaving the circus. Also, moving around constantly makes it hard for her to make friends her age. As a circus performer, she appreciates physical fitness in others. She also loves to sing and has a wonderful voice for it. She's also good with animals to the point where songbirds would land on her hands. Tokimeki Memorial 2 Extra Characters These are the minor characters that were introduced in either the original Tokimeki Memorial 2 game or the radio plays. 1) Bakuretsuzan Kazumi Physical Description: Height: 188 cm (6'2") Weight: 81 kg (179 lbs) Hair: White; worn combed back with a beard and moustache Birthday: August 10 The principal of Hibikino Private High School, Bakuretsuzan Kazumi, is an imposing figure on campus. He is usually seen wearing a brown traditional Japanese outfit, and his boisterous laugh is quite distinctive. Despite his intimidating appearance, he is very friendly with his students. He likes to see them happy, but one thing he doesn't like is dishonesty. One student he's especially friendly with is Akai Homura. At the beginning of her first year of school, he caught her coming in late. In an attempt to instill some responsibility into her, he made her the class president, though the attempt seems to have been a futile one. Still, he doesn't mind if she calls him "Kazumi-chan". Known Friends: - Akai Homura 2) Sakunoshin Mihara Physical Description: Height: 181 cm (5'11") Weight: 71 kg (157 lbs) Eye Color: Dark blue Hair: White, worn combed back in a ponytail with some spiky bangs Birthday: Unknown Escort and bodyguard for Ijuuin Mei, Sakunoshin Mihara is almost fanatical in his devotion to his charge. He's sure to enforce Mei's wishes, by gunpoint if necessary, and he's always there to make sure no harm befalls Mei. Being gay, one can be sure that he won't take advantage of his charge, either. As expected of a bodyguard, he is an expert marksman, and he's always armed, carrying a pistol under his tuxedo jacket. Despite his loyalty to Mei, he's even more loyal to her family in general and will act to protect its secrets. 3) Soo Banchoo (Ichimonji Kaoru) Physical Description: Height: 191 cm (6'3") Weight: 95 kg (209 lbs) Eye Color: Unknown, some reports have them glowing pink Hair: Black, worn spiky with a dark green cap over it Birthday: October 9 The older brother of Ichimonji Akane, Kaoru is the local gang leader. As such, he can be seen as an irresponsible delinquent, especially given the fact that the responsibility for the Ichimonji household should have gone to him when his parents moved overseas. However that responsibility went to Akane since he never took it on. Despite his irresponsibility, not to mention his delinquency, it can't be said that he doesn't care for his sister. When they were younger, a neighborhood boy that she played with didn't show up as promised, causing her to cry. Kaoru didn't like it one bit, and promised to beat up any guy who made her cry again, especially the boy who caused the problem in the first place, if he ever caught him. Thus, to Akane's annoyance, Kaoru began to scare away any boy that might show an interest in her (or vice versa). Being the head of the local gang made this easy for him, but should a boy be able to defeat him and his underlings, he'll begrudgingly step aside unless he has an excuse to butt heads again. He wears a dark green uniform with a long jacket, but no shirt underneath. 4) Kinniku Banchoo (Sakuradamon Nagata (?)) Physical Description: Height: 208 cm (6'10") Weight: 180 kg (397 lbs) Hair: Bald, usually wears a green cap over his head Birthday: May 5 The biggest of Kaoru's henchmen, Kinniku Banchoo is an intimidating young man whose outfit is reminiscent of a turtle with its back plating. He also wears metal forearm guards and relies on massive physical attacks in combat. Should he be defeated, he'll prove to be no sore loser, though. He wears a long green jacket with the sleeves torn off, a wooden waistband, and green slacks. 5) Hinotama Banchoo (Shikkoku Kanni (?)) Physical Description: Height: 154 cm (5'1") Weight: 53 kg (117 lbs) Eye Color: Orange Hair: Orange, worn long and spiky, kind of like flames, with a maroon cap Birthday: August 19 The hothead of Kaoru's underlings, Hinotama Banchoo is a short boy with a fiery hairdo to match his personality. His attacks rely on fire, but sometimes, he'll take try to roll over his enemies with a huge roller. Unlike Kinniku Banchoo, he's definitely a sore loser but will step aside once defeated. He wears a white sleeveless t-shirt with a maroon jacket with the sleeves torn off and maroon slacks. 6) Kogarashi Banchoo (Kamida Akiyoo (?)) Physical Description: Height: 183 cm (6') Weight: 58 kg (128 lbs) Hair: Pale green, worn long and loose with a white cap over it Birthday: February 9 Kogarashi Banchoo has a rather cool personality, which goes well with his ice-based attacks. He also carries around a shinnai (a wooden sword), which he also uses in combat as well as an instrument in his special attacks. If defeated, he'll accept the loss. He's easily recognizable in his white uniform. 7) Baito Bancho (Unknown) Physical Description: Height: Unknown Weight: Unknown Eye Color: Unknown (wears sunglasses) Hair: Light Brown; tied back in a short ponytail Birthday: Unknown Very little is known about Baito Bancho, other than the fact that she's the only female of Kaoru's underlings and that she wields a yo-yo in battle. She does tend to be a friend to Akane though, and sometimes will encourage her in various matters. She wears a black uniform, not unlike the uniforms worn by boys in most schools. While much about her is kept secret, those with sharp eyes will notice that her hair color and style are similar to one of the other TokiMemo 2 characters, and that the word "Baito" is what the Japanese use in reference to part-time work (from the German word "arbeit", which means "work"). 8) Strelitzia Nozaki (Sumire's father) Physical Description: Height: Unknown, but notably short for a male Weight: Unknown Eye Color: Unknown Hair: Purple; usually worn under a top hat (also wears a thin handlebar moustache) Birthday: Unknown The ringleader of the Takehiro Circus, Strelitzia Nozaki is a single father who looks out after his daughter, Sumire, who's one of the stars of the circus. As her father, he is concerned that Sumire doesn't make enough friends since they travel around a lot, and is often grateful for the few times when she does make friends her age. He does have a couple of additional worries, though. One is his ailing health, and the other is the relationship between himself and the circus performers. Despite these worries, he's strongly committed to keeping the Takehiro Circus running, even if it gets down to himself and his daughter. 9) Iizuka Mitsuru Physical Description: Height: Unknown Weight: Unknown Eye Color: Purple Hair: Purple; worn a bit long with bangs swept over one eye Birthday: Unknown The baseball ace in one of Hokkaido's high schools, Iizuka Mitsuru is a handsome young man. Unfortunately, he knows it and is not modest about it. When Sakura Kaedeko transfers to his school and becomes the baseball club's manager, he sets his sights on the cute, shy girl. Unfortunately for him, she has a flame at her old school and he becomes determined to win Kaedeko from the old flame. Legendary Landmarks The two schools in all three Tokimeki Memorial games share little in common with each other outside the existence of a legendary object that purportedly grants blessings on romantic couples on graduation day. In Kirameki High School, it is a Legendary Tree, while in neighboring Hibikino High School, it is a Legendary Clock Tower. For the upcoming Tokimeki Memorial 3, it will be the Legendary Slope. In all three cases, the party involved must stand near the legendary object and the girl must proclaim her love for the boy. Under the Kirameki Legendary Tree, that's all there is, but with the Hibikino Legendary Clock Tower, it also requires that the tower ring, meaning that the blessings are granted. No details are known yet regarding the conditions surrounding the Legendary Slope of TokiMemo 3. Though it isn't really necessary to put in the Legendary Tree, Clock Tower, or Slope in a TokiMemo fanfic, these landmarks are pretty much the representatives of the Tokimeki Memorial theme. Are they really just mundane objects given legend, or are they truly magical in their workings? That is up to the author to decide. V.
