Soon after her first year of high school began in April of 2095, she was taken to a party at the Mendo estate by Kaji Shuichi, one of the stars of the school's basketball team. It was there that she was introduced by him to Mendo Arisa, the aforementioned queen of the campus.
Unfortunately, that was the night that the Mendo estate was targeted for a youma attack. After the attack, which was repelled by a new magical girl going by the name Lovely Freesia, Yumi had found out that Shuichi had deserted her in the chaos.
Luckily, Arisa decided to show her some kindness and took her in for the night. Yumi deeply appreciated the hospitality shown to her, but was greatly surprised when she found out that not only did Arisa have a bisexual nature, but was deeply interested in her. However, she found herself unable to resist the affections the older girl showed her, and had her first experiences with someone of the same sex.
For a few days after, Yumi was quite confused over her feelings. She always felt herself to be hetero and still found boys attractive. On the other hand, she couldn't deny her growing feelings toward Arisa. Arisa, noticing this, reassured the younger girl and helped her to reconcile her feelings, explaining that it was normal for some people to have feelings for others, regardless of gender, unlike most people who confined their choices to either the opposite or the same sex, but not both.
Thus, Yumi had accepted the idea of entering into a relationship with Arisa. At the beginning, Arisa told Yumi that if she wanted to go back to guys, or if she found another girl to be with, that she would understand, implying a casual nature to the relationship. As time went by, though, Yumi had grown more devoted to Arisa, and she sensed the same from her senpai.
Early in the relationship, Yumi had joined the rhythmic gymnastics team at the invitation of Arisa. There, she met Miyakawa Mika, Mura Natsumi, and Ferris, who were fellow gymnasts, and all three disliking Arisa. Knowing only the kinder side of Arisa, Yumi couldn't understand why they didn't like her, even though Arisa herself only explained that she gave the other girls good reason to hate her. She could perhaps understand Ferris's dislike, since as a myanaran, Ferris disliked homosexuals in general, but not the other two girls.
As she got to know them as time went on, she began to like Mika and Natsumi, but kept a distance from Ferris. Likewise, Mika and Natsumi became friendly toward Yumi, regardless of her relationship with Arisa. Ferris, for her part, left Yumi alone.
When Takara Akira transferred to Mizuhara high school, it became the biggest stress on Yumi's relationship with Arisa. The reason being was that Arisa began to actively pursue him, and this made Yumi jealous. While Arisa was enraged that Akira turned out to be gay, Yumi was secretly relieved.
If there is anything she dislikes about Arisa, it's that she goes into a hissy-fit whenever the topic of the Exquisite Soldiers comes up. While she can understand a mild dislike based on the damage Lovely Freesia caused at the party where she and Arisa met, she cannot fathom why Arisa would hate them so much and wishes that she didn't.
She has become rather friendly with Mika in the time after she joined the team. For some reason, neither Arisa nor Mika would explain to her why there's a rift between them, and they always keep Ferris from saying anything on the matter. Despite the rift, though, Mika does not extend the ill will to Yumi.
As for Natsumi, Yumi has become good friends with her teammate. Natsumi's bubbly, outgoing nature has gone a long way towards this, and Yumi's always appreciative of anyone who's willing to be friends with her.
Ferris, on the other hand, makes her especially nervous. Yumi knows that myanarans in general are not known for liking homosexuals and bisexuals, and Ferris was no exception to this. In fact, this was made worse by Ferris's undisguised hatred for Arisa and was afraid that, unlike Mika, the catgirl would hate her just as much.
As far as Akira goes, she has neutral feelings towards him. While he seems nice, and she knows that his homosexuality precludes any relationship between him and her beloved, she still can't help but feel uneasy about the attention Arisa occasionally pays him.
Being a quiet girl, she goes for calmer activities, and prefers easy-listening or romantic music.
