Celia Reisman is a keen observer of the poetic within prosaic suburban scenes, spending time looking at what
others pass by. Creating images of neighborhoods in Philadelphia and more recently London, Reisman has
developed a personal visual vernacular that brings together stylized representations of domestic life within an
abstracted construct.

Through a stilted, pleasantly imbalanced use of color, and distortion of space and perspective, the paintings
break down the view of ordinary street scenes into mildly exhilarating experiences of form, color and
movement. Reisman's paintings are gently beautiful but complex puzzles that reveal their treasures
gradually. They are slow-turning dervishes of ephemeral delight disguised as mild-mannered landscapes.

Celia Reisman received a BFA from Carnegie Mellon and an MFA from Yale University. Her work has been
exhibited in several solo exhibitions at Gross McLeaf Gallery in Philadelphia and in group exhibitions around
the United States and in the U.K. over the past twenty years, and was the subject of a retrospective exhibition
at the Michener Museum in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Reisman has served as an Assistant Professor at
Swarthmore College for the past nine years, and has also been a Visiting Professor at Dartmouth College and
Trinity College, among others.
