Peter Soriano creates sculptures that suggest the potential for physical as well as visual interaction.
Using both additive and subtractive processes, such as carving wood and modelling plaster, Soriano
begets objects that hint at functions heretofore unknown, with a mobility unimaginable in a static
object. His works invite oddball ideas of utility and enjoyment in the discovery of a brave new world
of shape and color. The artist himself on his work: "I want the sculptures to be precise and designed
like those wacky tools you can get by mail order and, in addition, as useless and categorically abstract
as possible." (Peter Soriano, Centre d'art Contemporain, Mulhouse, France, 1999)

Peter Soriano is a graduate of Harvard University, and also studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting
and Sculpture. His work has been exhibited in one-person exhibitions in the United States and Europe,
including Lennon Weinberg in New York and Galerie Bernard Jordan in Paris, and in group exhibitions in
museums and galleries around the world. Soriano’s sculptures and works on paper have been acquired
by important private and public collections, including the Foundation Cartier, the Fogg Museum at Harvard
University, and Neuberger & Berman.
