MY NOTE-The above JOHN GREENING is most likely the father of MASON GREENING who appears in South Carolina in mid 1760's.  This John Greening was a grandson of Robert Frank who left a will in 1726 Westmoreland County, Va. Mason Greening of South Carolina would be a great gr/son of Robert Frank. So many of the Virginia records have been lost, primarily to courthouse fires, it is literally impossible to prove the lineage. However, Mason Greening of South Carolina had a close relationship with the Knighton family, who were also great gr/children of Robert Frank.-SGS

On this eighth day of May, 1850, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and fifty, personally appeared before the County Court for Boone County aforesaid, MARTHA GREENING and JOHN CROSTHWAITE, residents of the County of Boone, respectable persons, worthy of credit, on Oaths, who being first duly sworn, make Oath and say that they are well acquainted with the said SARAH GREENING, foregoing claimant; were well acquainted with JAMES GREENING, deceased, formerly a Revolutionary Soldier, and that they know the said SARAH GREENING was the wife, and now is, and since the death of the said JAMES GREENING, has been the widow of the said JAMES GREENING, that said SARAH GREENING has never been married since the death of the said JAMES GREENING; that they are well aware of the fact that the said JAMES GREENING and SARAH GREENING were married about the year 1784, or 1785; the precise time they cannot state, but it was certainly before the year 1790, and they continued to live together as man and wife until the death of the said JAMES GREENING, but believe that the time of his death is truly stated in the foregoing affidavit of SARAH GREENING; and from the best sources of information they possess, they believe that said JAMES GREENING died about the 4th day of June, A. D., 1836; that they are brother and sister of the said SARAH GREENING, and have been well acquainted with her during their whole lives and except for a small interim have always lived in the immediate vicinity of each other and have known all important circumstances connected with her.
