MORE ABOUT PHILIP I WILLIAMS:
Birth date unknown, but before 1734, as he was of age to execute a deed in 1755.  The earliest known record of Philip Sr. is the baptism of his son Philip Jr. as recorded 14 Jan 1748/49 in the Abingdon Par. register, Gloucester cty., VA.   He is described as "of Gloucester" in the earliest record of him found in Amelia cty., VA, the purchase of 400ac. from Benjamin Hawkins, rec.  08 Mar 1754/55, Amelia cty., DB5:122.  Deeds concerning adjacent property show that this tract was in Nottoway Paris, Amelia, on the north side of Flatt Ck, as was the 160 ac. parcel Philip purchased from David Ellington in 1778, and the 150ac. bought from John Dearen/Dearing later that same year.   It's unknown when he actually moved to Amelia, but it was before 1768, per tax records.  In 1783 Philip Jr. began paying taxes on 210 ac. of his father's  ~700ac. of land, which was subsequently bequeathed to him in his father's will.  Of the remaining land, the 354ac. 'home place' tract was bequeathed to Josiah, and the Dearen tract to Warner. That will was dated 14 Jan 1785, and proven 28 Dec 1786.  Final settlement was not until 21 Jul 1790, after Josiah sued Philip Williams Jr. & Joel Motley as exctrs. of the estate, and Thomas Elmore as guardian of brothers Warner and Daniel for division of the estate, filed 01 Sep 1788.   Public claims on file, Amelia cty., for beeves given "for publick use" during Rev. War.  One of more of these may pertain to Philip Jr.  A Philip Williams of Amelia cty. was commissioned 1st. Lt. in the VA militia in 1777.  Doliante lists this record under Philip Sr., but in the opinion of this researcher it more likely applies to Philip Jr.  One of the public claims cits "Capt. Phill Williams.

MORE ABOUT THE MARRIAGES OF PHILIP I WILLIAMS:
(June, 2004) Thanks to the Williams family researcher Tiffany Luchetta, who obtained copies of newly microfilmed Virginia Chancery CT. records, we now know that both of Philip's wives were daughters of Wilkinson Hundley, dec'd. 1772 (will pro. Gloucester, VA). Philip is named as son-in-law and co-executor in Wilkinson's 1772 will by virtue of his marriage to Mary Hundley, and documents in subsequent litigation over the administration of that estate are probative of his second marriage to her sister Elizabeth, who predeceased Philip.

4.  JOHN ARCHER5 ELMORE (ARCHELAUS4, THOMAS II3, THOMAS I2, UNKNOWN1) was born August 21, 1762 in Amelia cty., VA, and died April 23, 1834 in Autauga (now Elmore), AL, buried at a private cemetery near his home.  He married (1) MARY ANN SARAH SAXON, daughter of BENJAMIN SAXON.  She died 1804 in Laurens Dist., SC.  He married (2) NANCY ANN MARTIN Aft. 1804 in SC, dau. of MAJ. JOHN MARTIN and ELIZABETH TERRY.

More About: JOHN ARCHER ELMORE:
Soldier of the Rev. War,  prominent figure in late 18th/early 19th century South Carolina, and one of the shapers of the  state of Alabama.  Several of his sons, grandsons, and sons-in-law figured prominently in state and/or  national politics as well.  He was in Laurens, SC by 1786, and appears to have left there for central Alabama ~1820.  Had five children with his first wife,  and 13 or 14 with his second.  He & his descendants are covered extensively by Doliante, and many others.
