 Chicago artist Pamela Staker-Matson founded Just Paws in 1996. The focus of her portrait work is purely on pets - absolutely no humans allowed - except of course to pay for the paintings!In April of 1996, the artist adopted her first pet Murphy, a Doberman mix, from the Anti-Cruelty Society. She immediately began to paint portraits of her dog - then her friend's dogs - then her brother's cat - then her mom's cat - well, you get the picture. Now Just Paws has been going strong for over 4 years.As you browse through this site you will quickly see that these works go far beyond the norms of traditional portraiture. They are completely unique works of art that are not only lively and accurate portraits, but accomplished paintings in their own right.
