Mme Guy Bès de Berc, née Marguerite Le Ray d’Abrantès, died on 18 May.

[She was born on 16 November 1909, daughter of Alfred Le Ray, Marquis d’Abrantès (himself the son of Maurice Le Ray, Duc d’Abrantès, and of his wife, née Jeanne Joséphine Marguerite Junot d’Abrantès) and of his wife, née Hélène de Langsdorff (herself the daughter of Baron Bertrand de Langsdorff and of his wife, née Alice d’Harcourt). In 1932 she married Guy Bès de Berc (b.1903, son of Jean Bès de Berc and of his wife, née Germaine Claude-Lafontaine. He died in 1983. Napoléon Suchet, Duc d’Albufèra, died at Montgobert on 2 August.

[He was born at Vernon on 5 December 1912, son of Louis, Duc d’Albufèra, and of his wife, née Anna Vittoria Massena d’Essling de Rivoli. Since 1943 he had been married to Claude de Ladoucette (daughter of Baron Robert Charles Joseph de Ladoucette and of his wife, née Alix de Grammont). He is survived by her and by two of their children. Their first son, Emmanuel, succeeds as seventh Duc.] (added 9 Aug 2006)

Simone, Duchesse d’Albufèra, died at Neuilly-sur-Seine on 1 December.

[She was born at Paris on 31 March 1912, daughter of François de Chevigné and of his wife, née Gisèle Collas. In 1931 she married Louis Suchet, Duc d’Albufèra (1905-1995), son of Louis Joseph Suchet, Duc d’Albufèra, and of his wife, née Anna Vittoria Massena d’Essling de Rivoli. Countess André Plater-Zyberk, née Maria Alexandra Gräfin Esterházy von Galántha, died at Uccle on 9 November.

[She was born at Sopronhorpacs on 6 June 1926, daughter of Mária János Baptist László Péter József Ferenc Graf Esterházy von Galántha (himself the son of Mária Sándor Miklós Gabriel Graf Esterházy von Galántha and of his wife, née Donna Agnese Aldobrandini dei Principi di Sarsina) and of his wife, née Luise-Denise Gfn Széchényi v.Sárvár-Felsövidék. Nikolaus von Einem (b.Berlin 25 August 1975, son of Eberhard von Einem and of his wife, née Cornelia Gräfin von Plettenberg) married Princess Maria Agnes von Altenburg (b.Vienna 15 June 1979, daughter of Prince Johannes von Altenburg [himself the son of Archduke Clemens Salvator of Austria-Tuscany and of his wife, née Elisabeth Gräfin Rességuier de Miremont] and of his wife, née Eugenie Fundulus) on 17 June. Jean Phyllis Meade-Fetherstonhaugh, née Falkner, died on 11 January.

Herbert Meade-Fetherstonhaugh [himself the son of Richard James Meade, 4th Earl of Clanwilliam (himself the son of Richard Charles Francis Christian Meade, 3rd Earl of Clanwilliam, and of his wife, née Lady Elizabeth Herbert), and of his wife, née Elizabeth Henrietta Kennedy (herself the daughter of Sir Arthur Edward Kennedy)] and of his wife, née Margaret Isabel Frances Glyn [herself the daughter of Rt.Rev.Hon. Edward Carr Glyn (himself the son of George Carr Glyn, Lord Wolverton, and of his wife, née Marianne Grenfell) and of his wife, née Lady Mary Campbell (herself the daughter of George Douglas Campbell, 8th Duke of Argyll, and of his first wife, née Lady Elizabeth Leveson-Gower)]). Bertrand Peyredieu du Charlat and his wife, née Laetitia d’Alverny (daughter of Philippe d’Alverny [himsef the son of François d’Alverny and of his wife, née Princess Claude de Bauffremont-Courtenay] and of his wife, née Christiane de Courcel) had their fifth child, Gaspard, at Saint Naizaire on 5 January. Lady Hugh Russell died on 30 March.

In 1957 she married Lord Hugh Hastings Russell (1923-2005), son of Hastings Russell, 12th Duke of Bedford, and of his wife, née Louisa Whitwell. Lydia, Duchess of Bedford, died at St.Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey, on 25 July.

[She was born Hon. Lydia Yarde-Buller on 17 October 1917, daughter of John Reginald Lopes Yarde-Buller, 3rd Lord Churston, and of his wife, née Jessie Smither. In 1938 she married Ian Archibald de Hoghton Lyle, who was killed in action in 1942. From 1947 to 1960 she was married to John Ian Robert Russell, 13th Duke of Bedford (1917-2002). By her first marriage she had a son, Sir Gavin Archibald Lyle, 3rd Bt., and a daughter, Lorna, who married firstly Timothy Cyprian George Thomas Elwes, and secondly Walter Ronald Alexander. [The bride was given away by her father and was attended by Miss Lucy Taylor as chief bridesmaid.  Miss Isabella Coombs, the Hon Marina Primrose, Master Milo Dennehy and Master Tommaso Lequio di Assaba were also in attendance.  The Most Reverend Monsignor Protonotary Apostolic Azelio Manzetti de Fort, Conventual Chaplain Grand Cross Ad Honorem, Sovereign Military Order of St. John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta, officiated with the assistance of Padre Ferrucio Romanin SJ, Rector of Sant'Ignazio.  The Hon. Robin Gurdon led Mr. James Brocklebank and Mr. George Meyrick as supporters to the groom.  Witnesses to the marriage were Miss Sophie Norman, Barone Giovanni Malfatti di Monte Tretto, Prince Louis de Rohan (for the bride), and Lady Clare Kerr, the Hon Jacob Rees-Mogg and Mr Frans van Schaik (for the groom).  The bride and groom invited the following to act as ushers: Mr. Hashem Arouzi, Mr. Fergus Bowes Lyon, the Hon. Adam Bruce, the Hon. Luke Bridgeman, Mr. Piers Coombs, Lord Dalmeny, Mr. Yusef Jackson, Earl of Kerry, Barone Roberto Malfatti di Monte Tretto, Mr. James Mayhew, Mr. Antony Mayhew, Mr. Alexander Ravenshear, Mr. John A.
