Proposed Backup Crew for a planned flight to Mir
The main purpose was to provide spaceflight experience to Boroday who was assigned to the backup crew of Buran Flight 5. The flight was cancelled after the break-up of the Soviet Union.

New Backup Crew after the original backup crew of Levchenko and Shchukin died in 1988.
Buran Flight 5 would have been the first flight of the third Buran space shuttle. the first shuttle to equipped with life support systems and ejection seats. The two cosmonauts would have attached the 37KBI module to Mir's Kristall module with the Buran robotic arm. The Buran program was cancelled in June 1993.
