1. STS-41B Deployed Westar VI for Western Union Telegraph and Palapa B-2 for Indonesia
Failure of PAM stages left both satellites in low Earth orbit. The satellites were recovered during the STS-51A mission. Shuttle Pallet Satellite 1A (SPAS-1A) became the first satellite to be refurbished and flown again.
2. STS-51L Planned Tracking and Data Relay Satellite 2 (TDRS-B) deployment shuttle mission
Planned shuttle mission to deploy and retrieve Spartan-203/Halley's Comet Experiment Deployable to study Halley's Comet - Crew and vehicle were lost 73 seconds after launch.
