About the Artist:
Ray, is a retired chemistry professor and researcher (a career spent primarily at Canisius College, Buffalo, NY and The Foxboro Co., Foxboro, MA). A signature member and past president of the Rhode Island Watercolor Society, he has been painting as a pastime for most of his life. Since retiring however, he has become serious about learning the craft and has attended a number of workshops given by prominent national artist/teachers.
Ray paints primarily landscape and seascapes. These are influenced by his twenty years living in Western New York (about thirty miles south of Buffalo) and long time residence in New England. His seascapes are a natural development of his experiences. He spent his younger years on Long Island, NY and much of that time on the Great South Bay working as a clam digger to support his college education when his GI bill support ran out. Since then he has mated on fishing boats and crewed on sailboats from Newport to Bermuda. It is natural therefore for him to paint nautical scenes of the sea and the ships that sail on it, especially those that depend only on the wind for power. He is an avid skier and his trips in New England, and to Colorado and Utah to ski provide him with good reference material. If you wish to visit the gallery, please click the button shown below.
