SHIRE ACTIVITIES
Please join the Shire Discussion List to stay current on times and dates
The shire holds weekly meetings every Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm at Hubbard Public Library (Community Rm).
Our meetings usually consist of a brief discussion and updates from the officers. After that we work on personal projects, discuss upcoming events and activities, and just get to known one another. Fighter practice is held the third week of the month (see below).
Monthly Business Meeting: The first meeting of each month is specifically the "business meeting". This meeting is when voting takes place and officers are encouraged to attend. We also make the effort to dress in garb (though it is not required) and focus on dance practice. Sometimes we even go out for pizza afterwards!
Space for fighting is not available at the library, however, several shire members live very close by, so there is the possibility of meeting at the library and moving to a different location. Sign up for the discussion list to keep updated.
Please contact our marshal in charge, Beornmann (beornmann@aol.com) for further details.
Each month we try to hold a Project Day. These are hosted by shire members at their homes. We have had past project days regarding garb making, pottery, brewing, shire camp projects and repairs, and leatherworking. If you have an interest or a space you'd like to share, please consider hosting a project day. Contact the webminister.
Ulfr Needs Clothes! Stitch-n-Bitch
Ulfr has volunteered to hold a monthly stitch-n-bitch garb making night. On the fourth Wednesday of the month, from March until July, everyone is invited to work on garb at his home starting at 6:30 pm. His addess is 616 Forsythe Avenue, Girard, Ohio - it's not far from Rte 304, Belmont Avenue, or Rte 422. There is a school right across the street which has PLENTY of Parking. Please check the Officers page for his phone number for additional information. As a side note, he does have several dogs and cats, so be forwarned. Also, it is a smoker-friendly environment, although smoking will take place in the attached garage.
We hold several seasonal revels throughout the year. In January/February we have the Winter Revel, which for the past few years has been held in Mill Creek Park at the Pioneer Pavilion. It is a potluck meal with dancing and merriment following. We also have a Fall Revel, usually in October. The Fall Revel has been hosted by a shire member in the past. If you are interested in hosting a revel, fall, spring or summer, please contact the webminister!
For the past several years we have held Saxon Summer at Chestnut Ridge Campground in Hubbard, Ohio. It is a weekend camping event, Friday setup, Saturday main events, and pack up Sunday. The dates have ranged from early September to mid-October. There are classes, fighting activities, archery and thrown weapons ranges, a feast, and a bardic competitions held around a large campfire. In past years we have had a band play and have had dancing. It is a nice quiet event to relax at after Pennsic. Also it is a great event to introduce a friend to the SCA!
