All I Ever Really Needed to Know

I Learned in Kindergarten

Most of what I really need to know about how to live, and what to do, and how to be, I learned in kindergarten. Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate school mountain but there in the sandbox at nursery school.

These are the things I learned: Share everything. Play fair. Don't hit people. Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess. Don't take things that aren't yours. Say your sorry when you hurt somebody. Wash your hands before you eat. Flush. Warm cookies and milk are good for you. Live a balanced life. Learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.

Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out into the world, watch for traffic, hold hands and stick together. Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the plastic cup. The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.

Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the plastic cup -- they all die. So do we.

And then remember the book about Dick and Jane and the first word you learned, the biggest word of all : LOOK. Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation. Ecology and politics and sane living.

Think of what a better world it would be if we all -- the whole world -- had cookies and milk about 3 o'clock every afternoon and then lay down with our blankets for a nap. Or if we had a basic policy in our nation and other nations to always put things back where we found them and cleaned up our own messes. And it is still true, no matter how old you are, when you go out into the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together.

Dr. Seuss Explains Computers

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,

and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,

and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,

then the socket packet pocket has an error to report.

If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,

and the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash,

and your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash,

then your situation's hopeless and your system's gonna crash!

If the label on the cable on the table at your house,

says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,

but your packets want to tunnel on another protocol,

that's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall,

and your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss,

so your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse,

then you may as well reboot and go out with a big bang,

'cause as sure as I'm a poet, the sucker's gonna hang!

When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy on the disk,

and the microcode instructions cause unnecessary risk,

then you have to flash your memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM.

Quickly turn off the computer and be sure to tell your mom.

Our Lives are Like a Book

Our lives are like a book

Turning the pages of a new day.

Each page we turn together

In our own loving way.

This book will never end

As long as love exists.

Each chapter is created

With a love that so insists.

We read it everyday

And learn something new.

Every word will be ours

Every sentence... me and you.

Our love will grow

As will this book of ours.

Every page, a thought.

Every thought, Years, months, weeks, and hours...

Dedicated to My Love

Prejudices

I have spent each and every day

Facing prejudices of our times.

People use their hateful words

to break this heart of mine.

To them it's more important

to be cruel and just fit in.

Than really get to know me

as the person I am within.

I am not dumb or stupid

just because I'm sitting down.

I am not hard of hearing or blind

or one that is home bound.

People look at me with fear

most do not understand.

That the looks the stares and the words

do cause a hurtful tear.

Some may call me different

I call myself unique.

For those who do not see it

their opinions they should keep.

My Flower

One flower came into my life

And with it offered me happiness.

I haven’t let it fade, and beautiful flowers

Have grown near by to give even more happiness

Day by day.

If my flower should wilt,

my heart and soul shall die with it.

Windy

By Larry Gagnon --------------January 8,1969

I'11 never forget that fateful day.

The day the angels took my Windy away.

I know not why they took her from me.

For what reason could it possibly be?

In my heart I feel the pain.

For my Windy died in vain.

Now at night as I try to sleep.

I can only lay awake and weep.

I miss her so. Only heaven knows,

I love her.

My little girl, her heart was so kind,

All the teasing, she did not mind.

I remember when we used to play together.

How I wish I could have kept her.

I know I'll never forget her.

Sometimes she'd sit on my lap and sleep.

She was so frail, so sweet.

Whoever beat her was not human, No sir!

How Could anyone have the Heart to hurt her?

I know she has forgiven who ever did it,

That was her way, Just to forget it.

And when she'd come to cuddle you,

It was like she was trying to say,

In her own little way,

I love you.

Sometimes I still hear her little bells ringing,

But I know it must be her angel form singing.

What did she have to die for?

She never did anything wrong.

Though she didn't live long.

I know I'11 never find another just like her.

I miss hearing her warm satisfied purr.

She was so darling and loveable,

Windy never gave anyone trouble,

I had thought that something bad happened to

her on my way home from school.

But I thought that thought was the thought of a fool.

But when I got home I found it was fact.

When my mother slowly said ...

My Windy was dead.

If I Knew it would be the Last Time

If I knew it would be the last time

that I'd see you fall asleep,

I would tuck you in more tightly

and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

budrose.gif (3002 bytes)

If I knew it would be the last time

that I see you walk out the door,

I would give you a hug and kiss

and call you back for one more.

budrose.gif (3002 bytes)

If I knew it would be the last time

I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,

I would video tape each action and word,

so I could play them back day after day.

budrose.gif (3002 bytes)

If I knew it would be the last time,

I could spare an extra minute or two

to stop and say "I love you,"

instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

budrose.gif (3002 bytes)

If I knew it would be the last time

I would be there to share your day,

well I'm sure you'll have so many more,

so I can let just this one slip away.

budrose.gif (3002 bytes)

For surely there's always tomorrow

to make up for an oversight,

and we always get a second chance

to make everything right.

budrose.gif (3002 bytes)

There will always be another day

to say our "I love you's",

And certainly there's another chance

to say our "Anything I can do's?"

But just in case I might be wrong,

and today is all I get,

I'd like to say how much I love you

and I hope we never forget,

budrose.gif (3002 bytes)

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,

young or old alike,

And today may be the last chance

you get to hold your loved one tight..

budrose.gif (3002 bytes)

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,

why not do it today?

For if tomorrow never comes,

you'll surely regret the day,

budrose.gif (3002 bytes)

That you didn't take that extra time

for a smile, a hug, or a kiss

and you were too busy to grant someone,

what turned out to be their one last wish.

budrose.gif (3002 bytes)

So hold your loved ones close today,

whisper in their ear,

Tell them how much you love them

and that you'll always hold them dear,

budrose.gif (3002 bytes)

Take time to say "I'm sorry," "please forgive me,"

"thank you" or "it's okay".

And if tomorrow never comes,

you'll have no regrets about today.

Good night and sweet dreams,

The angels of God will cradle your soul

and watch over you as you sleep,

Peaceful sleep,

And in the morning

your eyes will twinkle of angel dust

and your hair of heavenly dew.

Angels

When Angels sense you need them

And Angels always do.

They come, unseen, from everywhere

To help and comfort you.

They hover close beside you

Till all your cares are gone

Till they can see you’re ready

Once again to carry on.

Then some of them may fly away

And take their gentle touch

To other hearts that need

The love of Angels very much.

But one, at least, stays with you

As your constant friend and guide,

For GUARDIAN ANGELS never leave

They’re always at your side..

My Guardian Angel

As a child, there was no doubt in my mind that an Angel

watched over me. I felt Her presence continually and knew

to listen for Her guidance.I have long since grown, and

throughout my life Ihave continued to know She is with me always.

Her presence is a source of great comfort to me. Many times,

over the years, I have felt Her sadness when I ignored Her

guidance in making some of my lifes choices.Additionally, many,

many times, over the years, I experienced Her intervention when

willfulness or carelessness placed me in harms way. Though,

in living, each of us must accept our full measure of loses and

sorrows, injuries and pain, ultimately, your gift of life is yours to

do with as you choose. My prayer for each of you has always

been and will always be ~as you experience your blessing

of life, I pray for you to give your Angel charge and allow

your heart to see the miracles surrounding you!

Death of an Innocent

I went to a party, Mom, I remembered what you said.

You told me not to drink, Mom, so I drank soda instead.

I really felt proud inside, Mom, the way you said I would.

I didn't drink and drive, Mom, even though the others said I should.

I know I did the right thing, Mom, I know you are always right.

Now the party is finally ending, Mom, as everyone is driving out of sight.

As I got into my car, Mom, I knew I'd get home in one piece. Because of the

way you raised me, so responsible and sweet. I started to drive away, Mom,

but as I pulled out into the road, the other car didn't see me, Mom, and hit

me like a load. As I lay there on the pavement, Mom, I hear the policeman

say, the other guy is drunk, Mom, and now I'm the one who will pay. I'm

lying here dying, Mom. I wish you'd get here soon.

How could this happen to me, Mom? My life just burst like a balloon.

There is blood all around me, Mom, and most of it is mine.

I hear the medic say, Mom, I'll die in a short time.

I just wanted to tell you, Mom, I swear I didn't drink.

It was the others, Mom. The others didn't think.

He was probably at the same party as I.

The only difference is, he drank and I will die.

Why do people drink, Mom? It can ruin your whole life.

I'm feeling sharp pains now. Pains just like a knife.

The guy who hit me is walking, Mom, and I don't think it's fair.

I'm lying here dying and all he can do is stare.

Tell my brother not to cry, Mom. Tell Daddy to be brave.

And when I go to heaven, Mom, put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave

Someone should have told him,Mom, not to drink and drive.

If only they had told him, Mom, I would still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter, Mom. I'm becoming very scared.

Please don't cry for me, Mom. When I needed you, you were always there.

I have one last question, Mom, before I say good bye.

I didn't drink and drive, so why am I the one to die?

Given to me in November of '96 by a Friend

This is the true Story of an Girl that died during a Car Accident with a Drunk Driver, she was on her way Home from her Prom Party. Please help not to let things like that happen again, don’t drink and drive and don’t let anybody you know drink and drive. And be careful when you out on the Road.... you never know who might be drunk and driving.

THE SPECIAL MOTHER

Most women become mothers by accident, some by choice, a few by social pressures and a couple by habit. This year nearly 100,000 women will become mothers of handicapped children. Did you ever wonder how these mothers are chosen?

Sometimes I visualize God hovering over earth, selecting his instruments for propagation with great care and deliberation. As he observes, he instructs his Angels to take notes in a giant ledger.

"Armstrong, Beth, Son, Patron Saint, Matthew."

"Forest, Marjorie, Daughter, Patron Saint, Cecelia."

"Rutledge, Carrie, Twins, Patron Saint…give her Gerard, he’s used to profanity."

Finally he passes a name to an Angel and smiles. "Give her a handicapped child."

The Angel is curious, "Why this one God? She’s so happy."

"Exactly, could I give a handicapped child to a mother who doesn’t know laughter? That would be cruel."

"But does she have patience?" asks the Angel.

"I don’t want her to have too much patience or she’ll drown in self pity and despair. Once the shock and resentment wear off, she’ll handle it. I watched her today. She has that sense of independence so rare and so necessary in a mother. You see, the child I’m going to give her has his own world. She has to make him live in her world and that’s not going to be easy."

"But Lord, I don’t think she even believes in you."

God smiles, "No matter. I can fix that. This one is perfect. She has just enough selfishness."

The Angel gasps, "Selfishness? Is that a virtue?"

God nods, "If she can’t separate herself from the child occasionally, she’ll never survive. Yes, here is a woman who I’ll bless with a child less than perfect. She doesn’t realize it yet, but she is to be envied."

"She will never take for granted a spoken word. She will never consider a step ordinary. When her child says "Mama" for the first time, she will be a witness to a miracle and know it. When she describes a tree or a sunset to her blind child, she will see it as few people see my creations."

"I will permit her to see clearly the things I see – ignorance, cruelty, prejudice – and allow her to rise above them. She will never be alone. I will be by her side every minute of every day of her life, because she is doing my work as surely as she is here by my side."

"And what about her Patron Saint?" asks the Angel, his pen poised in mid air.

God smiles, "A mirror will suffice."

When God Made Fathers

When the Good Lord was creating Fathers, He started with a tall frame. And a female angel nearby said "What kind of father is that? If you're going to make children so close to the ground, why have you put fathers up so high? He won't be able to shoot marbles without kneeling, tuck a child in bed without bending, or even kiss a child without a lot of stooping".

And God smiled and said, "Yes, he needs to kneel and be humble, and besides, if I make him child-size, who would the children have to look up to?

And when God made a Father's hands, they were large and sinewy. And the angel shook her head sadly and said "Do you know what you're doing? Large hands are clumsy. They can't manage diaper pins, small buttons, rubber bands on pony-tails or even remove splinters caused by baseball bats."

And God smiled and said, "I know, but they're large enough to hold everything a small boy empties from his pockets at the end of a day, yet gentle enough to cup a daughter's small face."

And then God molded long, slim legs and broad shoulders. And the angel nearly was alarmed. "Boy, this is the end of the week, alright, she clucked. Do you realize you just made a father who has no lap? How is he going to pull a child close to him with kid falling between his legs?"

And God smiled and said, "A mother needs a lap. A father needs strong shoulders to pull a sled and balance a boy on a bicycle, or to hold up the head of a sleeping daughter on the way home from a day at the circus."

God was in the middle of creating two of the largest feet anyone had ever seen, when the angel could contain herself no longer. "Do you honestly think those large boats are going to dig out of bed early in the morning when the baby cries? Or walk through a small birthday party without crushing at least three of the guests?"

And God smiled saying, "They'll work. You'll see. They'll support a small child who wants to ride a horse or scare off mice at the summer cabin. He'll wear shoes that will be a challenge to fill."

God worked throughout the night, giving the father few words, but a firm authoritative voice, eyes that saw everything, yet remained calm and tolerant. Finally... almost as an afterthought, God added tears. Then he turned to the angel and said, "Now, are you satisfied he can love as much as a mother?"
