Jiminy Peak Adaptive Ski Program

The Heart of STRIDE

Skiing was the nucleus for all that has followed, and remains the largest of all the STRIDE programs. Starting with Project STRIDE in 1985, Mary Ellen began bringing her adaptive physical education students to Ski Windam for special field trips. By 1988, the Maple Ridge Ski Ridge in Schenectady had become home to a program open to the public two nights a week with 5 instructors. Now entering it's fourth year at Jiminy Peak in Hancock Ma., the STRIDE adaptive ski program operates five days each week with 40 trained and highly-skilled instructors teaching hundreds of lessons every winter.

STRIDE offers lessons and equipment by reservation. STRIDE's volunteer staff members teach more than 400 lessons per year. Adaptive methods are taught in the following classes: Bi - ski, Sit - ski, Mono - ski, 3 - track, 4 - track, Blind Guiding and Developmentally Delayed.
