Aaron Burr Sturges was born  in Fairfield, Connecticut to Seth Sturges, and his wife, Mary Burr. (Mary was a first cousin of Aaron Burr ,  Vice President of the United States under Thomas Jefferson.) . Aaron Burr Sturges  married Selina  Hill Wakeman and, together they had 5 daughters and 4 sons.  He died  in Moresville(now Grand Gorge), New York.

Aaron Burr Sturges engaged in coastal trading while living in Fairfield, Connecticut.  He was a Master Carpenter as well as a Ship Captain. Aaron Burr Sturges and  his  brothers built and owned many different vessels.

After Aaron Burr Sturges  moved to Ferris Hill in  Delaware County, New York on October 21, 1808,  it appears that he applied his carpentry skills to building houses .
