The present law firm of Leefe, Gibbs Sullivan Dupré & Aldous was originally founded in 1986 and has evolved into today's firm practicing on both a domestic and international basis. The firm offers years of experience in business matters and is available twenty-four hours a day to address even the most immediate of emergencies. The firm can provide assistance at any time, and with its primary offices located in the metropolitan New Orleans area and Louisiana; the firm can easily service the Gulf of Mexico area and has historically traveled as needed to address any problem. The firm also has a staffed office in Salt Lake City, Utah and has established a reputation for responding aggressively in international matters and providing the attention needed to assure protection of the rights of our clients, while keeping in mind the need to minimize their costs.

Leefe, Gibbs Sullivan Dupré & Aldous offers both expertise in commercial matters on a domestic and international basis and representation in litigation relating to these types of matters. During the twenty-eight years of his practice, Richard Leefe, an engineer, law professor and practicing attorney, has handled both general commercial and litigation matters from Rio de Janeiro to Singapore. George Gibbs has an extensive background in complex, commercial real estate transactions and construction law. He has been called upon by other lawyers to serve as an arbitrator in construction litigation because of his vast experience in the area. The firm has a foundation in insurance defense, maritime and business litigation, and a great deal of experience in maritime insurance and vessel owner representation. The firm has represented major oil companies, underwriters at Lloyds of London, businesses involved in import and export transactions to and from the United States, and other clients in their dealings with the international community.

Commercial: The firm has dealt with all types of business and commercial issues and has provided representation to clients from all parts of the world in contracting, banking, construction, real estate, bankruptcy, offshore corporations, securities, and other areas of business. The firm has negotiated leases, joint ventures, construction contracts, trade agreements, provide political contacts and solutions for business problems. The firm is seasoned in representing and dealing with banks on a domestic and international basis. The firm has created and serviced corporations for its clients and provides the expertise to deal with such legal entities on a daily basis.

International Commercial Transactions and Litigation:

The firm has handled many international transactions and represents international companies in their dealings on a continuing basis. The firm has been involved in making necessary arrangements for export and import of goods relative to the United States and has supported clients of the firm in making bids on international projects. The firm has represented clients in the United States, England, Scotland, Germany, Venezuela, Brazil, Nicaragua, Canada, Mexico, Cayman Islands, The Bahamas, China, Ukraine, Russia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangladesh, and the Caribbean. The firm has developed an expertise in dealing with international banking and trade which has proven invaluable to the clients of Leefe, Gibbs Sullivan Dupré & Aldous. As an example, the firm has acted as representative of a firm of Brazilian coffee producers, representing them in both Brazil and the United States. The firm has also represented a Russian trading company in their activities all around the world, including Brazil, Ukraine, and the United States. The firm has litigated cases involving shipping and cargo claims, international trade disputes, real estate issues, other corporate related disputes, and insurance defense and claims.

Insurance: As stated in the sections above, the firm has many years of experience in insurance matters, having been defense counsel for many insurance underwriters, which have included, Underwriters at Lloyds of London, The Travelers Insurance Company (Ocean Marine Division), Continental Underwriters Ltd., Sentry Insurance Company, TransAmerica Insurance Company, TIG Insurance Company, Penn America Insurance Company, Prime Insurance Company, Automotive Casualty Insurance Company, ITT Hartford Insurance Company, among others. The firm has shown and has a willingness to react immediately to pending matters and has defended claims all along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, including litigation in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.

Admiralty: From its beginning, the firm has been very involved in providing representation in maritime matters and provides an expertise in admiralty law. The firm's founder, Richard Leefe, being an engineer and avid sailor, became involved in admiralty law and has years of experience in representing both ship owners and maritime insurance underwriters. For years the firm has represented Lloyds of London underwriters and has been defense counsel for several domestic American maritime insurance companies, for years acting as defense counsel for Travelers Insurance Company (Ocean Marine Division) and handling maritime matters for major oil companies. The firm has represented many American ship owners, as well as shipping companies from Brazil (Lloyds Brasileiro, CBTG, Companhia de Navegacao Nacional), Venezuela, Netherlands, Cayman, Panama, and other countries. Richard Leefe has been counsel for the Marine Surveyors Guild and the Panama Bureau of Shipping. Members of the firm have a great deal of experience in maritime claims, insurance defense, and coverage issues, including crew claims, cargo damage, hull claims, third party personal injury and related matters.

Richard K. Leefe:

Richard K. Leefe was the founder of the firm that now exists as Leefe, Gibbs, Sullivan, Dupré & Aldous. He has been practicing law for twenty-five years. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Leefe graduated from Louisiana State University with a bachelors degree in engineering in 1969. Upon graduation, he worked as an engineer and then entered the United States Army receiving a commission as a Combat Engineer. He served in the Viet Nam war and commanded a line company of combat engineers in the Mekong Delta during 1970. Upon returning from Viet Nam, he attended Loyola School of Law where he attained honors as an Editor of the Loyola Law Review and graduated as one of the top graduates in his class. A few years after his graduation, the law school asked him to join the adjunct faculty and he has now completed twenty-three years as a professor, teaching junior and senior law students.

Mr. Leefe is the author of major legal treatises; Louisiana Code of Evidence; Practice Guide, 1st Edition 1990, and 2ndEdition 1998 (Lexis Law Publishers); Case and Materials on Louisiana Negotiable Instrument Law, three editions, Loyola University Publisher, Cases and Materials in Evidence, two editions published by Loyola University. These respectively address the Rules of Evidence covering the presentation of evidence at trial, and the Uniform Commercial Code sections dealing with commercial paper, bank deposits and collections, and related matters. His evidence book is widely used by judges and practicing lawyers in Louisiana, and his book relative to commercial paper is used annually as the course book in that area at Loyola School of Law. In addition to teaching law school, he annually teaches a section of mandatory continuing legal education for Louisiana lawyers dealing with the rules of evidence, ethics and courtroom matters.

As an engineer, early in his career, Mr. Leefe was asked to provide representation in many matters which dealt with engineering questions, many, if not most, of which were maritime related cases involving vessel, cargo and personal injury claims. He has years of experience representing ship owners, stevedores, shipping agents, surveyors, insurance underwriters, and maritime suppliers. He has been counsel for Gulf Oil Company, Getty Oil Company and Texaco. In addition, he has spent many years dealing with international transactions, and has traveled virtually all over the world. He has personally handled matters in the England, Germany, Singapore, Brazil, Scotland, Cayman Islands, Bahamas, Canada, as well as the United States.

Mr. Leefe has extensive experience as a trial attorney and has tried cases in many of the states of the United States, having handled matters in New York, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana, Minnesota, Washington, California, Pennsylvania, Missouri, and Texas. He has appeared in both federal and state courts. Mr. Leefe has received special honors from the Loyola School of Law, the Louisiana Bar Association and the Republican Party.

Mr. Leefe has been active in American politics and acted on behalf of President George Bush in the presidential election campaign in Louisiana in 1992. Mr. Leefe is married with four children and lives in the New Orleans area.

George L. Gibbs:

George L. Gibbs earned his juris doctor degree from Loyola Law School and has been practicing for over twenty-seven years. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Gibbs graduated from the University of New Orleans with a degree in political science and served as a line officer in the United States Navy until 1971. His background in the military and aviation has involved extensive experience with the aviation community.

Mr. Gibbs' practice has been primarily concentrated in commercial transactions and business litigation. He has an extensive background in commercial transactions and has worked heavily in the fields of banking and international trade. He has years of experience in bringing transactions to fruition and assuring compliance with all necessary laws and technical details. Mr. Gibbs also acts as an arbitrator in contract and commercial transactions and serves on the panel of arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association.

Mr. Gibbs is married and has three children and lives in the New Orleans area.

Jerry W. Sullivan was born on September 18, 1961, in Madison, West Virginia. He received a B.S. degree in Chemistry and Political Science from the University of South Alabama, cum laude. Thereafter, Mr. Sullivan graduated with high honors (Magna Cum Laude) from Loyola Law School in 1985. During his tenure at Loyola, Mr. Sullivan served as a member of the Editorial Board of the Loyola Law Review and authored Jones and Llaughlin v. Pfeiffer: The Ramifications of Inflationary Calculations 30 Loy. L. Rev. (1984).

Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Sullivan served as a law clerk for the Honorable Judge Peter H. Beer of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Following his tenure in the Federal District Court, Mr. Sullivan became associated with the law firm of Halpern & Daigle, where he practiced until 1994.

Mr. Sullivan practices primarily in the fields of insurance defense, corporate governance, commercial litigation, and bankruptcy law. He is active in the Louisiana, Florida, and American Bar Associations, as well as the Young Lawyers Association. Mr. Sullivan is admitted to practice law in the jurisdictions of Louisiana and Florida and is further licensed to practice before both federal and state courts in both jurisdictions. His practice requires him to travel to the Salt Lake City, Utah area frequently, where he represents a number of large private and public companies.

Arthur D. Dupré, Jr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 28, 1958. He received his undergraduate degree in accounting from Louisiana State University in 1980. He graduated from Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 1983. Immediately upon graduation, he joined the tax department at Deloitte, Haskins, & Sells, public accounting firm. In 1987, Mr. Dupré joined the law firm of Leefe, Donelon, Donelon & Voorhies. While there he practiced in the areas of maritime and commercial litigation, including injury/property damage defense in both federal and state courts. Mr. Dupré is now a partner in the firm and is continuing his practice in the same areas of law. Mr. Dupré was commissioned in 1989 as a First Lieutenant in the Louisiana Army National Guard as a member of the Judge Advocate General's Office.

Jeffrey N. Aldous was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on September 21, 1959. He received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Brigham Young University in 1985, and subsequently received his Juris Doctorate from Loyola University of New Orleans in May, 1988.

During his final year at Loyola Law School, Mr. Aldous served as a clerk to the Honorable George Arceneaux, Jr., in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Following his graduation and success in passing the Louisiana State Bar Examination, Mr. Aldous began his legal career in intellectual property law in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Upon his relocation to the Salt Lake City, Utah area, Mr. Aldous practiced initially in high profile personal injury litigation. Thereafter, Mr. Aldous became associated with the firm of Trask, Britt & Rossa, where he again focused on an intellectual property practice. In February of 1992, Mr. Aldous accepted a position as Legal Counsel to Nu Skin International, Inc., where his responsibilities encompassed serving as general counsel to Nu Skin Canada and for coordinating and directing all international intellectual property matters. In June of 1995, Mr. Aldous became a partner in the firm of Daigle, Sullivan, Dupré & Aldous, with offices in both New Orleans, Louisiana and Provo, Utah, until that firm merged to become Leefe, Gibbs, Sullivan, Dupré & Aldous. Mr. Aldous' field of expertise includes the areas of intellectual property.

Mr. Aldous is admitted to the Bar Associations for the States of Utah (1989) and Louisiana (1988), including all state and federal courts within those jurisdictions. He also is a member of the Intellectual Property Section of the American Bar Association and the International Trademark Association and the Cosmetics, Toiletry and Fragrance Association. Mr. Aldous is currently married and has four children. He resides in Provo, Utah.

Charlsey Wolff

A cum laude graduate from Tulane Law School in 1986, Charlsey Wolff has worked as a practicing attorney in the areas of domestic relations, worker's compensation, personal injury and property law. Ms. Wolff is admitted to practice before all state courts in Louisiana and the United States District Court for the Eastern District Court of Louisiana. She is married to Bennett Wolff, a practicing attorney and she has two children. Ms. Wolff also received her M.A. in French Literature from the University of New Orleans in 1992 and speaks French fluently. She also enjoys travel and golf.
