Quote of the Week:  "If we don’t have a seat at the table, we have no right to complain later.”  comment from Ridgefield, Connecticut First Selectman Rudy Marconi on his town's joining in approving spending $70,000 to join the Alliance for Sensible Airspace Planning

Politicians Love Aviation Pollution!!!

As Bill Sees It (Editorial): Stupid Republicans Use Old Air Force One Plane As Debate Backdrop!!! One thing that is comes clear during the debates in both parties is that they both love aviation expansion. As for Republicans, the stupidity exhibited by their party's president, George Bush, has carried over to those who want his job. These candidates obviously don't live in a FAA noise pollution hell with planes going over one-a-minute during the day and all night long. However many Americans do and I am sure the symbolism of the debate background wasn't lost on them. It looks more and more like a democrat victory this fall, whether its Hillary or Barack. So I guess no Republicans are ever going to get to ride on Air Force One, at least not as president. Not that the Democrats care any more about the quality of life and health of Americans; they are just smart enough to shove their uncaring in our faces. New York's Governor Lauds Stewart Airport As An "Enormous Economic "Engine" For Region!!! Somebody should ask the Governor Spitzer if he would like to live under the flight path of this enormous economic engine(s). Of course he wouldn't. Like most politicians he lives in an area that is carefully protected from plane noise. If a politician gets to be president, he gets a automatic "no-fly" zone wherever he goes. When he leaves office he gets the no-fly zone over wherever he lives!!! Maybe New York's Governor Spitzer is trying to get no-zones for governors like he tried to get driver's licenses for illegal aliens.

Connecticut: Community To Vote On Whether To Join Fight Against Airspace Redesign: Voters will decide next Wednesday whether Ridgefield will join the area fight against a plan to reroute New York airport traffic overhead. If voters approve spending $70,000 to join the Alliance for Sensible Airspace Planning, Ridgefield will join more than a dozen Fairfield County towns in the effort to change the Federal Aviation Authority’s proposed airspace redesign. The aviation agency has already approved the redesign, but not yet adopted it. First Selectman Rudy Marconi said he hopes voters at the town meeting will approve the cost of joining the battle. “It’s for legal representation, lobbying and a grass-roots effort,” he said. “If we don’t have a seat at the table, we have no right to complain later.”
The Board of Selectmen and the Board of Finance have already voted to approve the money for Ridgefield to join the airspace alliance, but the appropriation must also be approved by voters at a town meeting. The selectmen will hold a public hearing on the matter immediately before the town meeting vote. The hearing is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6, in the lower level conference room of town hall. http://www.acorn-online.com/news/publish/ridgefield/28442.shtml

New York Governor Says Stewart Airport Expansion Is An "Economic Engine For The Region:" Poughkeepsie – Governor Eliot Spitzer Wednesday had a message about the future of the Hudson Valley’s economy – watch out for Stewart Airport. Speaking to the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce in Poughkeepsie, Spitzer said the Newburgh airport is going to put the region on the map. “Stewart Airport will be an enormous economic engine for the Hudson Valley. It will transform the capacity of businesses to get here. It will be a destination,” he said. “Sometimes people get a bit worried that it might become the fourth major airport after Newark, LaGuardia and Kennedy, that rubs some people the wrong way, but let me tell you it is going to be an enormous economic engine.” Officials of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, who took over operations of the airport in November, have consistently said it would not be developed as a fourth jetport. But, Wednesday, the governor appeared not to rule that out. http://www.midhudsonnews.com/News/Spitzer_SWF-30Jan08.htm

Germany: Berliners Love Their Airport??? Berlin is to hold a referendum on whether the Tempelhof Airport, located within the city, should be closed. "No other European city could hold such a plebiscite," Jutta Kramm says. "If you asked Parisians, Londoners or Romans if they'd like an airport smack in the middle of town, they'd say 'No thanks.' But Berliners are different. They hold a referendum on noise and dirt in the city centre, and huge financial loss. After all, that's what they would get with the continued usage of Tempelhof Airport. ... But Berlin is not like any other large city. It was the capital of the Cold War, a city on the front lines, and an island. No one took things for granted. You had to take a stand: For America and its way of life, or against. For Socialism and the Party, or against. That's the only way to explain why East Berliners are so upset by the razing of the Palace of the Republic; and it also explains why many West Berliners cling to their Airlift airport." http://europe.courrierinternational.com/eurotopics/article.asp?langue=uk&publication=01/02/2008&cat=LOCAL+COLOURS&pi=0
