Richard Ameryk was born in about 1440 and died in 1503. He lived in Bristol, England.

Ameryk was the major financial backer of John Cabot’s expedition in 1497.

Furthermore, he was involved in commercial cod fishing in Newfoundland perhaps as early as 1480, this was twelve years before Columbus supposedly discovered America.

He was originally a wealthy merchant trader, and later had a political career as The King’s Customs Officer.

He made extensive land purchases, and his family ancestry and descendants are well documented.

Ameryk’s coat-of-arms, remarkably is "stars and stripes".
