I was contacted by Dorothy Perry, the Mother of Jane and John Perry who attended Bedminster Down in the late 60s.

Jane Perry was tragically killed on her way home from school on Sept 11th 1968- only her second day

My son John  52 !! now lives in Cornwall- is happily married has 3 grown up children all scattered through the UK. He was a miracle child inasmuch as he had 10yrs of illness being born with 4 heart defects in 1952- then completely corrective heart surgery in 1962-

There maybe folk who still remember them both- so would you please publish the address of the website-Jane's words are a compliment to the schooling she received at Headley Park infants and Junior's- and she loved her short time at Bemmie Down!!

MALAGO Magazine  51

Jane's poems were published.

Things have moved on swiftly from the initial setting up of the website- as a little book Jane wrote has now been published, in it's original form just as she wrote it, in her handwriting plus illustrated cover and her mistakes and corrections,  the poems are also included.

I am able to buy it from the publisher at £3. it retails at £4.50 plus 50p postage-UK,  the £1.50 profit going to the British Heart Foundation.as a Thanks for John's successful heart operation in 1962. ( I have already sent a cheque for £70.50 to them, and have more to send.) It is as if an acorn has grown in to an Oak tree-- I am delighted, as it has been my dream to get it published- the wonders of the internet eh??

There will be  an article on the subject  in today's Evening Post supplement Magazine- Nov 20th Saturday-. A friend of mine who works at the Evening post mentioned it to a reporter there,Tim Davey- who said he would try to find a spot for it- then the following day- his boss asked him if he could find a story for National Remembrance Day on Nov 22nd, for those who had lost their lives in road accidents.

What a coincidence,he interviewed me the week before last- and the resulting article came to life.

I have recently become involved with a lady who lost her little girl in a road accident 36 years ago on the second day of attending of her new comprehensive school.
She was 11 years old. Her name was Jane Elizabeth Perry.
Her mother sent me Jane’s poems and prayers to read and I was so impressed with them a web site was put up to house Jane’s writings.

Her mother also sent me a little book the child wrote. It is a full story in her own handwriting with mistakes and drawings on the front cover but very intelligently written. You can understand what the story is all about.
I contacted a publisher of books in my hometown and Jane’s writings have now been put into a book form including her poems.
The story has been printed as an exact copy in her handwriting but the poems are printed normally.
These books are being sold for any proceeds to go to the British Heart Foundation after the initial printing fee has been deducted.

If any one collects books this is a lovely and very unusual one going in aid of a good cause because Jane’s brother John had a major heart operation and in his mothers words ……………………………………..
“John's operation was for correction of 4 congenital heart defects-- correct name being Fallot's Tetralogy -- there was no operation for it when he was born and I am sure he was the first one to have it done successfully. He was in hospital from the November 1961- till April 1962. Had his operation on March 27th. No cardiac ward in those days-- with all the monitors etc- he was in a side ward of a large male ward- at the Bristol Royal Infirmary- just two bed’s and the team of Doctor's nurses etc stayed on duty 24 hrs -- just total surgical and nursing care. I feel it was a miracle”……………………………………….

John is now in his 50s and still going strong.
