"Presiding Skills"
Workshop Topic
All those who serve as presiding officers need to sharpen their skills from time to time. Even parliamentarians who never actively preside must nevertheless "speak the language" in order to be effective advisors on procedures. This is a hands-on workshop on presiding with emphasis on "speaking the language" of parliamentary procedure. Participants will develop skills in recognizing speakers, processing motions, and handling interruptions. Selected topics include preparation of the metting agenda, proper use of scripts and motion forms, presiding at conventions, coordination of staff assistance, and problems in professional presiding. Attendees will participate in mock meetings designed to improve "thinking on your feet" while presiding. All particpants will receive a certificate of attendance.
