About the Not For Joes

Well, hi there! Welcome to our web site. We're the Not For Joes, from southeastern Connecticut. We claim New London as our home port. What we do is called Morris Dancing . We started as an outgrowth of "Make We Joy", the annual celebration of the Winter Solstice at Connecticut College.

"Not For Joe" is the name of a popular Morris dance tune. The dancers are sometimes referred to as "Not For Joes", and the dancing as "Not For Joeing". It is purported that "Not for Joe" comes from a Victorian expression that meant "No way".

Many of us have spouses on the women's Northwest clog side, Mystic Garland. Some of us also dance with the Westerly Morris Men, just over the border in Rhode Island. We also have a seasonal children's side, the "Junior Joes".

As for our musician Rusty, he's been known to "play around".

We're always willing to take on new members. After all, it's just too darn much fun to keep to ourselves.
Give it a try!
