Kate Burgauer graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Miami, where she was enrolled in Film and Creative Writing.

As a Freshman, her screenplay "SCRAPS" won the award for Best Undergraduate Screenplay.

As a Sophomore, she won the award for Outstanding Achievement in Advanced Production.

As a Junior, she was the winner of the Best Feature Screenplay Competition at the 2005 Canes Film Festival sponsored by UM School of Communications for her screenplay "VINYL".

As a Senior, she was the recipient of the award for Outstanding Senior in the Motion Pictures & Video Film department, as well as from the entire School of Communications. Her Graduate Thesis OPERATION COWBOY is a full-length screenplay based on the story of the Allied rescue of Lippizaner stallions near the end of WWII.

Kate has a growing list of Production Credits.

Kate was a Junior member of the SFWA. She attended Notre Dame High School, and is a graduate of the Father Sweeney School for the Academically Gifted. She won an Honorable Mention for Poetry from READ Magazine. She has also served as an advisor to WORLD Magazine published by NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, and was the President of the University of Miami Film-Makers Association.

Kate's short story sales have included:

Her story "See No Evil" also won an Honorable Mention from ISFIC (Illinois Science Fiction in Chicago), the organizers of Windycon XXV, November 1998; and was a finalist in the Millennium Philcon Student Science Fiction & Fantasy Contest in 2001.

Her story "Birds of a Feather" was recently re-published by THE EDGE, a British science fiction magazine. It also got a wonderful review in the February 1999 issue of ARTS ALIVE and was a semi-finalist in the Student SF Contest sponsored by Baltimore's Worldcon.

Kate loves to ride horses and write in her spare time. She is a Girl Scout and has earned the Silver Award. She has traveled to Central America, most of Europe, parts of Australia, and Eastern Africa. Writing has always been a part of her life, with science fiction of special interest. Kate Burgauer lives in Peoria, Illinois, with her family and her dog, Max.
