SGS Transmission Reliability Benchmarking Study

The annual SGS Transmission Reliability Benchmarking Study furnishes the electric transmission industry precise reliability performance measures.  Last year’s study included half of the US grid.  The large pool of participants provides both relative and absolute comparisons by voltage class against the industry average, regions, peers and first quartile, as well as between individual systems.
In May 2001, at the annual SGS Transmission Reliability Benchmarking Study conference, SGS Statistical Services proposed reviewing current industry data collection and management practices and gathering ideas for improvements.
A consensus was developed for creating Transmission Line Availability Data Guidelines and Definitions. The document was authored by SGS Statistical Services and Blue Arc Energy Solutions and reviewed by 37 transmission entities. It was completed in February 2003.
This document is intended to provide a comprehensive guideline for definitions associated with the collection of data to assess the availability of electric transmission circuits and systems. The audience for this document is transmission owners, operators, regulatory authorities and other stakeholders in the electric transmission industry.
