Life
Story
I left my
birth commune of "Kompong Khleang", "Siemreap" to
pursue my secondary education in Phnom Penh, the capital of the Kingdom of
Cambodia.
As a young
student, I took part innocently in the demonstration against Vietcong at
the Vietnamese embassy, one of the events that lead to the establishment
of the Khmer Republic.
During the
utopia Democratic Kampuchea regime, I served "Angkar" as "chalat"
in "Prey Veng", "Phum Peak Bopea". Although it
was not unique to the population at the time, try to imagine slaving in
the field with primitive conditions while family and friends are dying
from starvation, overwork, torture, disease, and mass execution.
I fled
Cambodia with my wife (Narin) and extended family to a refugee camp in
Thailand after briefly working as reporter for SPK, the government press
agency of the People's Republic of Kampuchea, under the strict
control of the Vietnamese.
My wife and
I were grateful for the asylum granted by the US mainly for the
opportunity to further our education. We now reside in Florida with
two boys (Roth & Sydney) .
My wife and
I are "Killing Field" survivors.
