Life
Story
Not unlike
any first generation Cambodian-American, my journey to America has been an
odyssey indeed. After the fall of Phnom Penh to the KR, I was kept along
with others (Drs Son Qui, Chhear Chhay, etc.) for about 3 weeks in the
Calmette Hospital to treat the KRs until we were forced out to the
countryside. I lived and worked with, among others, Drs. Chhear Chhay and
Keth Chino from the staff of the Calmette Hospital in Prek Prasap, Kratie
Province, which was designated as Dambonn 42 during the Pol Pot
years. After surviving the Killing Fields, I came to work at Calmette
Hospital in March '79. I escaped to Thailand's various refugee camps (Khao
I Dang, Buriram, Phananikum/Chon-Buri). Finally, I arrived at the U.S. in
December of 1980. |
