MULCHING/STONE

All organic mulches provide the same basic benefits – stabilize soil temperature and moisture. Added advantages of organic mulch include providing an area free of competition from grass and weeds, and a neat and professional appearance. Not all mulch is created equal. Mulch can come in many forms from fine to coarse or from light to dark. Which ever you may apply, the mulch should be applied to a depth of 2-3" . Too much mulch is detrimental to plant growth and prevents the plant from receiving much needed water, air, and proper soil temp. Always keep the mulch away from the trunk of the trees.

Inorganic mulches, such as decorative stone, add a colorful clean look to the landscape design. Unfortunately, they do not afford the environmental advantages of organic mulches. Not to mention, no one likes to have a stone go through his or her window.
