The plant of the month for November is Baldcypress. This plant is a long-lived, pyramidal conifer which grows 50-70' tall. Although it looks like a needled evergreen in summer, it is deciduous (it looses its needles in winter). It grows very well in drier, upland soils as well as very wet sites, even standing water. Trunks are flared at the base, and when growing in water, often develop distinctive "knees" which protrude above the water. Soft, feathery, green foliage turns an attractive orange/cinnamon brown in fall.
