Question for January 01, 2002:

Information: A lung biopsy showed non-specific histologic findings with no evidence of viral inclusions - it was from a patient with lupus who had slowly worsening pulmonary function.  The CMV DNA in situ was reported as positive, and the slides sent to me for review.  The first panel (Figure #1) is their positive control (lung known to be strongly positive for CMV) and the second (Figure #2) the result for the lung biopsy in question.

Question: Do you think this is signal or background?
