Question for May 01, 2002:

Information: VALIDATION PROTOCOL FOR HPV IN SITU HYBRIDIZATION

There has been a recent strong push to incorporate HPV testing into the diagnostic surgical and cytopathology laboratory.  This is especially true for biopsies and Pap smears that contain atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance.  HPV testing by in situ hybridization has many advantages over hybrid capture or PCR, including the ability to actually see the infected cells and to detect ONLY productive infection.  In situ HPV testing is now automated; the attached document details a validation protocol for HPV using the BenchMark System of Ventana.
